Where do I look to see if I have an intank pump or not, without taking the tank down hopefully. I tried looking and really can't tell, there are wires plugging in on top of the tank but they could just be for the fuel gauge, I also tried turning the key on and not starting the truck and listening and didn't hear anything at the tank. I am trying to upgrade my fuel system and trying to decide which pump to get and all that. I was thinking a carter or holley blue and a vulcan big line kit, does it matter whether or not I have an intank pump with that setup?

i dont know a whole lot about the holley blue or the vulcan kit, but if u tap the key (turn it to start the truck but let go before the truck starts) that should make your lift pump run for about around a min. should give you long enoff to figer out if the pump is on the side of the block or in the tank

did you pop the hood and look on the driver's side of the engine block for a pump?

I never looked for a pump on the block, I was under the impression that everybody had the pump on the block and some trucks had ones in the tank also and if you added a new pump then you could leave the one on the block inline, but if you had an in tank one you had to add a draw straw. Now that is just how I took reading through a bunch of threads of course I could be WAY off on that, since I have misread stuff before! If I am incorrect please point me in the right direction. What I am trying to do is upgrade the fuel system, I just want to make sure I have all the necessary stuff before I tear into something and can't finish it.

When they (the dealer) do the in-tank conversion, they remove the lift pump from the block. Look under the hood just behind (toward firewall) and below the fuel filter canister, if you see sumthin that looks like the pic in "Fig. 3" then ur pump is on the block.
If you look down there and there is an aluminum block with 2 fuel lines coming out of it, then you have the in-tank pump. When they do the in-tank, they remove the factory lift pump from the side of the block and install the aluminum block to have some place to hook up the origianl fuel lines. Also, if you have the in-tank, there will be an extra power wire (small gauge) coming off of the + side of the battery going to a relay somewhere close on the firewall (on the drivers side).

Thanks, that clears things up for me, I do have the lift pump on the block I checked so if I get the holley blue with the regulator and the vulcan big line kit that should be all I need?

Yep, that should work for ya. If you remove/bypass the factory pump (which you probably will) when you install the Big Line kit, you do not need the regualtor. The Holley pump is only rated at 14psi, so you will not need the regulator (if you don't use it in conjuction with the stock pump). You may even have to take the bypass spring out of the bottom of the Holley pump and stretch it to get a little more press. out of it. But, you can cross that bridge when you come to it.
