Unhappy Talked to Service Mgr about mods

Talked to my local Service Mgr where I bought my CTD about Mods. I told him I wanted to change the muffler and put some gauges in and change the air intake. He said “we really don’t care what you do to the muffler or what gauges you put in, but don’t change the air intake” said that “they” don’t like it when you change the air intake and if I do, it may void any warranty effected by the different intake. I showed him a pic of the S&B intake and told him that this intake was even an enclosed intake just like the one on the truck, not some big open Stage II intake. He said hold on and I will call my warranty tech and ask him. I said I thought you guys made the call on warranty issues? He said no, DC has gotten so strict on the diesels that any part the we replace that is not a “stupid part” we have to get the OK from DC, and there is actually a regional guy that comes to the dealer and gives them the OK after he looks at the truck. Also told me just the past month the warranty tech actually went out and got some special box from Cummins to sweep a truck for a juice box because they did not want to warranty this guys work. So I guess for now I will just get a good drop-in filter since I don’t plan on adding a box yet.

What parts do you think they could void if I did go with the S&B?

I just put an Amsoil EAA189 drop in air filter in mine. So far I'm happy with the results. If they are skittish with intakes I would avoid oiled air filters. Lots of dealerships like to deny warranty with oiled filters, claiming the oil causes damage to sensors and such.

Are you familiar with the term "dusting an engine"? In theory, they could refuse to honor the engine warranty for any problems or failures (engine or turbo) associated with abrasive wear.

Are you familiar with the term "dusting an engine"? In theory, they could refuse to honor the engine warranty for any problems or failures (engine or turbo) associated with abrasive wear.
This sounds like something they might try and do the way the Service Mgr was talking.

Ya know, that guy from DC better be in the waiting room when I get there. If I am EVER told they are waiting on someone from DC to fly in to make sure I haven't modified MY truck I WILL get a lawyer. This is rediculous for those of use who have not performance modified our trucks to have to wait for some jackarse to look at it for a problem that they KNOW they have (cp3's leaking, injectors failing, fuel pump performance ETC) theres no excuse. My suggestion to them would be to train their techs to identify abuse problems before calling DC. OK Rant off

They seem to want to use ANY excuse to COVER UP thier design flaws. At least both Ford and GM were willing to step up to the plate and solve their issues, took responsibility the way they needed to and gave excellent customer service to boot. DC need to look at all of this stuff and realize that their CR system (Bosch) has flaws and needs fixin' just like GM did. Granted that really affected the year-end profits, but still, the design we have today already had a track record, the fixes that were known should have been incorporated in our trucks.

Just take the intake out when you go in it only takes 5 min's.
I don't want the hassle of it so I take my intake out. I did it just this week for an oil change. we all know a good filter is the key so if you run a good filter with your kit then don't worry, but take it off since you know they don't like intakes.

Me too!

My biggest complaint with the dealers is thay take one look at your truck, see it has aftermarket parts, and immediately claim "voided warranty". They won't make any attempt to diagnose the problem to see if it could be caused by said aftermarket parts. If I did something that caused the problem I have no problems paying to fix it. But I don't feel I need to pay for Dodge's problem because the service department is lazy or not up to the task.

My dealer could really care less about mods unless they are to the extreme. When i just brought my truck in I had my MAC intake on. It's a big blue open filter with a chrome housing and a chrome tourqe tube. Plus the Banks High Ram was on which sticks out like a sore thumb. It all matters on how much your dealer likes you. I just buy my parts at this dealer never a vehicle. But I gave them fair warning (6 months) that I was looking for a diesel. They told me we don't sell many so we don't get many used ones. I said Ok you have my phone number.

The dealer I bought my truck from sells & installs K&N airfilters for gas & diesel trucks. That would be interesting to try & void the warranty because of an intake. The S&B set up is PROVEN to not only flow better, but filter at 99.5% efficiency! I'd bet that's better than the K&N they sell!

problem started with guys asking for turbos, trannys and such knowing they caused the failures.
