Has anyone installed one of the new '06 factory tailgate protector / spoilers on a truck that didn't come stock with it yet? I bought one from Mopar with the factory style mounting screws and nut clips. The nut clips look like they will require little rectangular holes cut in the tailgate skin to be used. I called the dealer they said the tailgates that use the spoilers come from the factory with the holes already in them, but that seems like it would be a problem for body shops when having to replace a tailgate. I thought about trying to use a Dremel tool to cut the 4 little slots for the nut clips, but that could turn into a disaster very quickly with one slip. Any ideas?

I think he is referring to the factory Dodge tailgate protector, not really a spoiler. It looks similar to the Chevy gate ptorectors (which I love). Compared to my bed liner going over the top of the gate, this would be a much better option.

I think I'll just use aluminium pop rivets instead of the screws. I have some black anodized 1/8th rivets with large diameter heads that look similar to the factory mounting screws, and since I don't plan on pulling it off they should work fine.

Your right, but the dealer calls them a tailgate spoiler?? I'll probably install it in the next few days and post a pic. or two when done.

I just installed one about two weeks ago and I like it alot. It gives you something to grab when raising or lowering the tailgate, and yes they call it a tailgate spoiler. I went to a local parts store (auto zone) and picked up some body panel screws for less than $2.00. They're black with a flange around the head and aren't supposed to rust. I predrilled holes and dipped the threads in silicone to prevent rust where I drilled. I used an air operated cut off tool and cut right along the raised part at the top of the old tailgate protector. If you set the spoiler up there you can see right where to cut. I would post a picture but I've tried several times in the past with no luck, they seem to go off in syberspace somewhere. you can pm me if you want and I'll e-mail you a pic. LCH

The black aluminum rivets worked great, and look good too. I used touch up paint around the rivet holes I drilled to prevent future rust. The whole job took about 15 minutes. I'll try and post a picture soon.
