Tach Woes
I Purchased A Autometer 2888 Alternator Accuated Tachometer. The Instuctions Say To Put The Induction Pick Up Over The Laminated Portion Of The Alternator Housing. My Alt. Doesn't Have These. Can Anyone Help Me Out Here? Will This Tach Work On My Truck? Thanx.

The laminated part should be the center of the alt. where it looks like layers sandwiched together. If it does not have this design you can just strap the sender in the center of the alt. with the clamp. It should still work.

Mine doesn't have laminations showing either. I just temporarily hooked it up so I could see it while under the hood. Then I moved the pickup around until I got a good solid reading. Then I clamped it there. The signal will go through the aluminum case just fine.
If you have access to a diesel shop tach you can set it OK but rev the engine up to get a more accurate reading. I borrowed an optical tach and put reflective strips on the HB to get a reference value.

You may have to tweak the positioning to get a good reading at high RPM. When I first installed mine, it would flatline at 2k. A little adjustment of the sensor and it read as high as I was willing to spin it.
