switch from auto to manual

alright well heres the story, a guy at my local auto parts shop told me hes got a standard tranny with new clutch and linkages and the full set up for my truck all i need to get is the pedal and those parts, but i want to know if the swap is worth it? since i have an auto right now, i would like the standard. oh and it has a new clutch and is very good condition, but how much work am i looking into to do this? and my old man said no but to bad it's my truck i can do what id like to do haha, anyway any advice would be great

Do you have a 2 or 4wd? If its 4wd you'll need to get the coupler between the tranny and t-case as well as a new input shaft for the t-case or the right t-case. The clutch works via hydraulics so there is no real linkage to mess with. It's really not a bad job if you have done transmission work before. Just take your time and find a good tranmission jack.

well it'll be something where you'll need the manual xfercase as well, the auto one won't work! Easier to do on a 2x4 and I don't know all the snags on a 4x4 swap sorry guys!1 I've done the swap on my '89 2x4 and YES the tunnel is too small, you need the larger bolt in hump from a 72' - '89 4x4 auto/4sp or 2x4 4sp truck!! auto 2x4's have small humps!
