Swirl Marks In Paint

Well i let some yahoo talk me itno letting him do his "3 STEP PROCESS" wash and wax that is. I specifically told him i do not want to see swirl marks, well guess what major freakin swirls every where in my paint. What is the best way to get swirl marks out of paint or do i have to live with them?

If they are really bad, you would need to take it to a true autobody shop and have them buff out the swirl marks.

Unfortunately I also agree here.

I believe they are small scratches in the paint caused by whatever product you used, and they need to be buffed out by someone who knows what they are doing.

Sometimes the swirls are in the wax. Strip the wax, use some swirl remover and re-wax..... and hope for the best.

If they are light swirl marks, a random orbit polisher and some McGuire's polish, cleaner, and wax may get them, or even just their polish wax.

The paint must be absolutely clean, as must the pad.

If it is worse than that, I have some Harley Davidson swirl and scratch remover that works well with a regular buffer, but don't get carried away and be careful around any ridge or edge.

Check out autopia.net. It is a professional detailers site. I'm sure you will find the answer to your question. One of the best sites I've found regarding how to take care of your paint and interior.

You'll need an orbital buffer. I use 3M's Perfect-It II polish. Buff on a lower speed setting wetting the paint occasionally with a spray bottle with water. Don't bear down on the buffer to hard. You won't believe the shine left behind. It doesn't talke long nor is it very hard work. Finish with a good quality wax or paint protectant.

Be very careful, especially on any ridge or edge.

Make sure you use the polisher on it`s lowest speed , and make sure the truck is CLEAN before you do anything.

Good luck...

BTW...what color is your truck?

I have to dink with paint all of the time from my bikes wife and daughters cars, my black SLK55 to my truck . No problem to get them out it will just take some time and there is no need to pay to have it done unless you are not experienced at all in using an orbital buffer or if it is bad enough a clay bar.
There are many detailed instructions on how to use the different products (I use Meguires ultra diamond cut or the show car glaze for the perfect surface and the NXT 2.0 wax or Number 26 to make it look liquid depending on the vehicle) per online sources to help you keep from screwing things up. Just remember it is not rocket science but it does take patience.

What kit did you get with your DA (7424)? IE: polish, compound, and pads?

My truck is white. The kit comes with 2 low profile white pads, 2 low pro gray pads, 1 5inch backing plate and 2 5.25 inch orange cutting pads. Also i got the Wolfgang DUO 3.0 kit which includes 1 16 oz swirl remover, 1 16oz finishing glaze, 1 cobra mango breeze microfiber towel and 1 5.5 inch orange cutting pad. I hope this is enough to get the jod done LOL. I have not decided what wax i going to use but will worry about that later. I think i will try out the hood on my Massey Ferguson tractor just for practice first.

Good idea about the practice on the tractor, or other less critical painted parts...
