Surging Tons of black smoke.
Coming home from hunting this weekend and the truck starting surging and blowing massive amounts of black smoke. I did have the cruise control on going 74 mph when this happened. I was close enough to home that I could get off the freeway and limp it back home. I seemed to do it no matter how I drove it. The one thing I did notice was that it didn’t do it all when I was in the neighborhood going about 20 mph. All the gauges were fine. Fuel pressure was at 15, which is all the higher mine reads. I do have a FASS fuel system. The filter was changed not long ago. I also put in a Timbo Apps about two years ago. The check engine light did not come on. Any ideas where I should start checking? Injector, vacuum leak, turbo.
Thanks,
Chris Thorson

Thanks guys. I will check again. I didn’t see anything the first time but didn’t look that close. I did add a good dose of diesel clean to the tank. I let the truck run for about 15 minutes and then drove it for about 30 miles and it was fine.
