I have a 2001 2500. Problem that I am having is that the engine is loping and searching for power then it kicks in. Runs fine and strong at higher speed it is just getting there. If I let up off the gas and step on it again power througha nd gets up to speed. Any Ideas?

Could be a dirty fuel filter or lift pump, maybe the APPS. Do you have a fuel pressure gauge on the truck?

Sorry Mike it took so long to reply. Uncle Sam had quick set of plans for me. To answer your question I changed the filter about 2 weeks ago. I thought the same thing. I have no gauges at , but I am thinking of purchasing them. It seem to only do it when I need the power between 4th and 5th gear. If I back off then rev the gas it catches and plows on through.

Better put a Fuel Pressure gauge on it you might have low Fuel Pressure
and reset your apps.

Check the codes on it. It sounds like an injection pump.

No problem I know how that is... I would check your fuel pressure, also wouldn't hurt to see if any codes come up as suggested. I think on your truck you can do the on/off 3 times to pull codes.. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Okay, new to the diesel thing. What is the on/off 3 times trick? Where do you read the codes at also. I know that I need to get gauges and am working on that also so all the help is greatly appreciated.

Cycle your ignition on/off 3 times and then leave it in the on position (don't turn it to start). The codes will come up in the odometer window, be something like a P0216, P1693, P0602, etc until it says PDONE. Those are your diagnostic trouble codes. There is a list in the tech facts which will tell you what the codes mean, or you can post them up and someone will tell you.

Try taking off the Apps and adjusting the torx at the back of it. There are some good suggestions on how to do this. Mine was listed at 0.468 VDC and was at 0.330 vdc get a decent multi meter and it is easy to do. This made a noticable difference but didn't fix the gutless engine probem. You may want to have the injectors pop tested and see if they are in spec' s as well .The dollarshop in Prince George said that this wasn't nessecary but the injectors were way out of spec's. Hope this helps if not will help further.
