Surging with the Silver 66
I keep having visions of roasting tires and stacks pluming. I want the biggest and the baddest. But I have to be realistic. Twins probably aren't in the budget anytime soon or super cp3s. I'm thinking single turbo, maybe modded cp3 and injectors. What I want to know is that with daily driving, occasional towing (probably no more than 7-8k). Will I have surging issues with Silver 66? Or should I go with the SPS 62 or Silver 62? I want lots of usable all around power. I won't be going to the dragstrip (occasional street race here and there) or sled pulling or weekend trips to the dyno. I'm putting a parts plan together now because I'll be buying soon. What do you think?

If you dont do any other mods, you might have some issues...
Your first mod should be a full billet tranny before stepping up to a turbo that big, then add more fuel, either Glacier or FASS pump, some decent injectors, studs, then toss on a nice big single and go to town.
(assuming you also have an air intake, and some nice free flowing exhaust)
Theres always so many supporting mods to make big power(and more reliably)

I definately want the tranny first. I'm doing an AFE stage 2 shortly then finally decided on straight piped 4inch into 6inch stack system. I just like the way it sounds. So that will be taken care of. I just have to find time to drop the tranny out and send it to Dave. Don't know how long I can live with out my baby.

I asked him that and he said it would be cheaper to just modify my existing tranny since 06 trannies are hard to find. That Dave, always trying to save you money.

In Cheyenne, the elevation is over 6,000 feet. I keep thinking I'd probably be ok if I have enough fuel to feed it. I'm just worried that when I get up in the 7-8k elevations I might see some trouble. I really don't tow in those elevations, but being that high could I start to see surging?

I fully recommend going with a sps 6280 over the silver bullet, for street driving, much more fun (good english skills lol) I have rode in a couple of trucks with the 66 and yes they build nice power, but my truck is much nicer to drive around town, and I think it would be much quicker in a block to block race

I agree with Kevin. I too would like to say I got a Silver 66 or an A5000, but in the reality of things a 62 mm turbo is gonna be much more pleasant to drive thus resulting in much more fun. If you want to go to the track or sled pull a far amount 66 may be the ticket for 50/50 daily driving and competition but worse case senerio, get a 62, if it aint enough send it in and get it upgraded.

I haven't really heard of surge problems on 3rd gens w/ the 66 compressor...
I've got an sps62 on my truck, and I love the drivability of it, but down here at sea level, I'm romancing putting a silver 66 on it... I'm gonna try water/meth first and see what it does for EGT's.
if you're considering a silver 66, I say go w/ the silver 62... that way if you decide you want more compressor, the upgrade cost won't be that great. the SB turbine wheel is supposed to spool better than the SPS turbine...
