surging problem

so i have wrote on here before and got nothing reallie. so will try again, i have a surge. it reallie is not that bad and does it only occasionally but i recently had a load on the truck and it constantly surges, did for over 800 miles. i understand that the apps could be an issue with the surge but as for this bad its a fuel/fuel pressure issue. like i said i was runnin 10-14 idle and 6-8 down the road and it dropped to running 5-6 idle or traveling. i have the fass hd series 95gph system. i recently changed both the water separator and filter. it did nothing to change my fuel pressure. i was told that my draw straw could possibly be plugged? i was also told that i could have air in the system and would need to bleed the lines? i been told the lift pump but i have absolutely no other signs of a weak lift pump.

a question i do have is, when a aftermarket fuel system is installed, such as my fass, is the stock fuel pump left in the tank to feed the lift pump which feeds the injector pump?

what year truck...No lift pump in tank. I replaced my lift pump and after a year I was having fuel pressure issues with the surging. To make a long story short it was a bad wire connection to the lift pump...You need to disconnect the lift pump connection and use a DC volt meter and check voltage...But while you are doing this you need to bend pull push on the wiring harness and see if the volts change or disapear. My ground had a break in it right at the female connector. So while your driving the motor is rattling the broken wire, the wire was making partial contact.

To check the voltage with the lift pump disconected you turn the ignition key to the starting possition "just bump it for a split second" but dont start the engine. Now you have 25-30 seconds to check voltage. Have the meter setup and ready to go. If you need more time then bump the key again until you are done diagnostics.
