That would be a good turbo for the fuel you have. What are you wanting to do with the truck when its done? Don't know if you are the all out overboard type but the o-ring's are not really needed nor the 625's.The arp 2000's will work fine but if you got the money to spend go for it!

I think it would be a perfect compliment as a single.

Goals for the truck would be to have 650ish HP and have it as driveable as possible, aka fastest spool and best EGT control in all situations and stuff like this...

Don't expect to see that with that setup. The special is a great turbo and underrated by folks... but it is not superman either. With the mods exactly as you state them, maybe 600... but it is a good platform to start with. 650 with the mods as you state them would be exceptional and on the ragged edge of possible, IMO.

As said above, with the mods you state, o-rings and 625's not necessary. You can stay with stock mls gasket and arp2000s.

The most I've seen with a special was high 600's ... but that was freakish and even surprised the owner and egts very high too. And bigger stix than you mention too... although don't take that the wrong way... 2.5's can certainly make 650 if done right.

I am going to have to respectfully disagree with soulezoo on this one.

I am running a Special with 90's and I'm making 650 with low EGT's, (1350-1400*), spools well and daily drives awesome.

We also have a buddy with a 03 that makes 675 with 90's and great EGT's.

Also have a 04 with Flux 3.5's and no Cp3 that makes 655 with egt's in the 1100 area.

Finally we've got a 97 12valve that makes 715 with 1450-1500 egt's and drives awesome!!

IMHO, the special is the perfect turbo for bridging the gap between high hp and good manners!!

Hey Les you guys are the ones I was thinking of when I said exceptional....

I just think he's gonna need just a little more than what is listed to hit the 650 goal.

On this we do agree! This is part of what I meant when I said the special is underrated. It just doesn't come up in the turbo conversations as much as it should.

BD does some good things with turbos and twin kits and shouldn't be overlooked when shopping.

As for the OP, I simply meant he won't see 650 for the mods he lists... I do think the special is a great turbo, but he is either going to need a little more stick or a little more electrics than he lists to get there.

But do listen to what 2007 5.9 says... those guys at Left Coast do have a lot of experience with the special.

I agree with soulezoo, you will probably need more duration and probably a pressure box to hit 650 on a '04.

I think the Special with your 2.5's, TNT/r, a TST, and a Dr P or other pressure box will be needed to get to 650. As far as the turbo goes, should be no problem.

It's all good Terry!!!

I thought you were questioning the turbo, not pointing out the other parts he was lacking!!!

As Soulezoo pointed out, more electronics will be needed to hit 650+!!!

Its all good! Im just usin 650 as a roundabout goal...im not going to be heartbroken if I don't get it..just lookin for a turbo to do it if it happens.

But Soul...any input on maybe a BB turbo to fit my needs and how it would perform?

The special is a bad mamajama on my brothers second gen. If I were to start again, 3 turbo's later it is the turbo which would be my first choice. Wish someone would of tols me three years ago that a 600+ hp truck would tow 16k behind it with a special. Electronics turned down but, I just can't say enough about it after seeing it in action. No offense to anyone but you would have to see it on his truck to understand.
