Super B Special and uncontrollable EGTs

I installed a BD Super B Special and my EGTs are out of control. I have to feather it getting on the highway to keep them under 1200.
As of right now I'm running 370 injectors, a ground plate, cold air intake and a 5" exhaust after the 4" down pipe.
I have see 50psi of boost at about 3/4 throttle so I'm thinking I have enough fuel. (more boost then I thought I was going to be making, and more then I want to make on a stock head gasket)
As of right now I'm thinking to solve this I need to ring the head, add studs and add a bunch of timing to it (20-22*). While I was in there I was going to add a 4gsk. 60lb springs and TI retainers.
I was thinking about doing water meth, but for the cost of a good kit I can almost ring the head and buy studs and a new gasket.
So, here comes the question. Is doing all this work going to fix my EGT issue?

get rid of the 370s. Studs, and head work won't lower the EGT's. I was just in the same boat as you. 370's are just hot injectors.

Verify timing, check for boost leaks, have the injectors checked out. You shouldn't be running that hot if the injectors are in decent shape. Whats your WOT EGT's like?

I just got a Super B special myself, no EGT problems here, my timing is bumped up a bit, but I have yet to see 50 psi of boost and wot gives me no more then 1100 degrees. must have something to do with the 370's and lack of timing. Are you running a high flow exhaust manifold? if not, that is a big problem with one of these big turbos.

The reason I wanted to do studs and head work was so when I add timing along with the 50psi of boost I won't pop a head gasket. I know that studs and rings alone will not do anything for EGT's. The injectors I'm running were bench tested about 30,000 mile ago and they came out of my old truck running twins and I never had an EGT issue. As far as I know the timing is stock, but I'm sure it could have slipped in the 83,000 miles of its life. I have yet to do wot b/c of EGTs and boost. It's my only running vehicle and I can't risk popping a head gasket. I have a ATS 3 piece exhaust manifold on it. So as of now its looking like a timing issue?

Timing and injectors. Try some Scheid's. You'll make more power with less smoke and WAY less heat.Brett's 12v with Scheids and LOTS of dyno time getting the pump tuned has delivered 715HP. He is studded though, so I would get on that if I were you.

Timing will help some, but i dont think it is going to help much in the 1500-2500rpm range. When you need the extra timing for EGT control is in the higher RPM's.

Decent sized singles just like to run hot cruising and getting up to speed, which is why i wont be going with anything big at all on my truck for as long as it is a daily driver. 450-500hp can be made on a 60mm charger or something like a 62/65/14 and cruising EGT's and towing EGT's will be much better than the 64/71/14 you have now. Although, wide open throttle that 64 should flow pretty well.

Another thought, any chance your pyro is out? Both my 62mm and 66mm will get to 1000 just getting onto the highway, but I've never seen 1200 doing that. You gotta work them pretty good to get it that hot.

I've got a 24 valve with a super B special and i hit above 1300 when i run hard on the highway gone way past 1300 and let off the throttle up hills when i have my camper in the box. I don't like the special, wish i never bought it, its just too big but still won't cool when i have my camper on. But thats my experence with the special, i know 24 valves a bit different but the special should be the same for both engines i think

rage blue- I bet you would really like the regular Super B. It would be a lot better for towing and hauling, and spool up faster.

By the looks of it, you don't have enough fuel to need a turbo that size. A 57mm or a 62 would have been a better choice. With basically the same setup as you (I had a II pump, and Smarty instead of an EZ) I couldn't break 1300 degrees.

Rage blue, how hot did your truck get with the stock turbo with your mods? Ive got dang near the same setup as you and with the stocker I cant break 1100* with 34 psi max boost and thats towing 15k. Ive tried to warn people about the Super B special for a while now....laaaaaggggy on the bottom with high egt's but then it spools and cools and really moves on.
