Okay so i have the super b special got it a few months ago and just latly loaded my camper. the campers a 8 foot that sits in the box, probably wieghs 2800 pounds loaded. I tryed pulling some big hills starting at 100kph at the bottom and accelerating hard till i hit 1300 EGTs wich was only about 110kph so i kept accelerating till i hit 1400 egts, i was now doing about 130kph, wich was not to bad. Then I tryed pulling my 16 foot fishing boat too. could only do 120 and the EGTS spiked past 1400 every time. Now i thought this was a big turbo that would cool under high loads and lots of feul, was i wrong? When i'm pulling hills i can only pull about 35 PSI in 5th befor i have to let off the feul beucase EGTS are high. Any one else have any experence pulling heavy with this turbo? I know i saw someone on here talk about getting a special but i haven't caught how that went with heavy loads. Maybe i need to back down the smarty from 9, but that doesn't sound like much fun. Oh yea the special Has the wastegate blocked and it hits 42psi when the trucks empty

Back when I ran the Special as a single I didn't have any issues but my truck is setup different than yours. I would have to hit the hills pretty good when towing heavy but once I hit 25 psi of boost it stayed below the danger zone.

I ran the Smarty on 3 if that helps.

If you sig is up to date you dont have enough fuel for that turbo. Sounds like your falling under the charger.

I'd agree I don't think you have enough fuel, at 42psi the charger is barely in its happy zone. With my comp on 1/1 I can hit about 37psi and egts won't go over 1100 with my special, on kill its about 50 psi, wastegate has never been touched and egt's get to about 1500ish.

Sounds like maybe you're trying to pull in too high of a gear for the turbo?

The 64/71/14 is a great performance charger, but just not that great for towing.

A 62/71/14 would have been a much better towing setup. Or a 62/65/14.

You dont have a lot of fuel, but you should have enough that it is getting enough fuel to tow about as well as its going to.

I think you are either going to have to go to a smaller charger, or live with what you have. You may be able to get it to perform a little better by adding some more fuel, but they just arent the best towing chargers.

You are definately underfueled. Try running EZ on kill & Smarty sw3 Timing 4.

Probably not a good idea with a hot rod pump. Some of those pumps are already pretty aggressive with timing. JMHO

Ohhh. I missed the HRVP. Even if the pump adds 100hp as they claim....thats still only 80hp injectors. I think 150's would be perfect.

He has a BD Hotrod pump, don't think it advances timing.

I think that a 62/65/14 would be too small. I have one similar and its not much good for keeping EGT's down either. Exhaust side is too small.

I was thinking of a 62/71/14 when i bought the special, but the shop i work at is a BD dealer so i wanted to run one of there turbos. So would 150's spool that turbo any faster? Right now i leave really dark clouds behind me at ever intersection when i'm empty, i worry that bigger injectors will put out to much smoke. I've got EZ cranked all the time. When i get some spare money i'll be getting a comp box i think. I just unloaded the camper today so i'll play with the smarty while i';m empty and have to wait till next camping trip to see it #3 helps

I don't think you'll be happy after spending lots of money playing musical turbos. Short of installing twin turbos, you have to learn to drive differently when you try to push 4-500 HP out of these small 5.9 liter motors pulling large hills with stuff in tow.

I don't care what single turbo you go with, you cannot tow a serious load, up hill with the fuel settings cranked and your accelerator on the floor and only see 1200 for EGT.

And don't listen to the your under fueled comments, more fuel will not solve the problem.

The reason you're seeing black clouds is because your turbo is to big. Get yourself some type of box whether it be a TST, Edge, Quad so you can bump the power up a little more. A 64/71/14 can be towed with. There are hundreds if not thousands of guys out there doing it. The one thing I've learned over there years is that just about every mod requires a learning curve.

I gaurantee you that my setup spools every bit as fast as your setup. I tow 18k# & egts stay well in check. I have to seriously lug it to see over 1250*.
