There is a "new" steering kit that is available from Dodge. It is also being used in a current recall on some pickups. There are threads on this site and other Dodge diesel sites talking about the new kit. The parts are much more heavy duty and seem to cure many problems people have had with their front ends. Some people have said it has stopped DW in their vehicles. It is well worth the money if your vehicle is not included in the recall. If you need more information about this kit you can PM me.

I put 1500 into the front end and it's still sloppy in the steering wheel. Only thing I did not replace was the steering box lol. I think that might be my problem.

Any info on which trucks were recalled? Would be nice that I could have them pay for it rather then me.

You should(well maybe) receive a letter if your truck falls under the recall. I think the recall number is H-36. You might look it up. Also there is a phone number you can call and enter the last 7 or 8 digits of your vin and it should tell you about the recall. I don't have the number right now--I think it is on TDR. I'll see if I can find it.

Put in the last 8 of your VIN and it'll tell you what recalls you're due for.

I went to the web site and it shows my truck is due for a steering linkage recall. Does this mean they will put on the upgraded steering? The web site shows an issued date of 4/27/09. Is that the date the letter was sent to my house? I never received it. I have a stupid question. What is bump steer.

Thanks for you help Chris

I believe there are 2 recalls
1 for the one I pulled on my truck and 1 for the 08 09 steering linkage.
I'm going to be calling the dealership tomorrow. The service writer I have worked with in the past is a pretty good dude, sometimes that helps.

This is my understanding of the recalls. I'm sure someone will chime in and correct me if I have misunderstood or don't know what I'm talking about. The 08 and 09 trucks have a different "steering kit"(upgraded if you will) than the earlier models. There was a problem with some of the steering parts(the tie rod and the way the steering stablizer mounted to it)on some of the trucks. Dodge had a couple of different manufactures make these steering kits and one of the manufactures didn't do so good and that is the one that they are recalling or at least checking the trucks to see if the stablizer is mounted correctly. At about the same time someone noticed that the new "steering kit" was a lot better(bigger and stronger) than the old ones so some people started to replace their steering parts with the new ones. The dealers were also replacing some of the older steering components with the new ones if customers complained about DW(this was part of a TSB). One of the recalls deals with these kits and Dodge is checking to see if these kits were also ones made by the one manufacture that had problems. The best way I think to check is if you have a "new" steering kit and the part number ended with "AE" then your kit is ok. If you have any other one ie; AA, AB, AC, or AD, then yours is probably covered by the recall. If you have never upgraded your steering system and you don't have an 08 or 09 truck then I don't think this will apply to you. I hope this is understandable--if not PM me with a phone number and i'll try to do better.I think this information is correct. if not, someone else can take a shot at it.

I have a bone stock '06 3500 w/ single wheels. I checked a few months back at a local dealer and they said there were no recalls pending for my truck. I read this thread today and checked the web site shown where you add your VIN and I got back a recall pending for steering. I will be off to a local dealer tomorrow to see what they come up with. I have had no wobble issues but then again it only has 32k. I don't know how many miles it takes for these issues to erupt but with some luck they will fix them now and I won't have to deal with them.

thanks for the info. You forum guys are great. Keep up the good work.
