Subwoofer Recommendation---single 10 or 12" under driver's side back seat?

Looking for a 10 or 12" sub to go in a box under the driver's side rear seat in a quad cab. I listen to mostly rock and country with occassional rap. Since I only have room for one sub, I don't want to skimp on sound. Looking for recommendation as to 10 or 12" plus what brand. I think I want a 2 ohm sub because I'll be powering it with a Kicker 3-channel zx550.3. (425W RMS @ 2 ohm, 210W @ 4 ohm). Thanks

Regular or quad cab?

Kicker Solo Barics sound good...

J/L W7's are sweet...pricey...but sweet.

If you have a regular cab, I would go with the 10"...

quad cab...12".

Well it depends on if you will be going ported or sealed enclosure wise. IMO if you go ported, go with the 10" sub size, if sealed the 12". I've had great luck with the Kicker CompVRs have now graduated to a L5 solo baric 15". Problem is airspace isn't plentiful in these types of enclsures for trucks, so size does become more an issue. The 10" will be easier to fi in and will probably be plenty for the airspace vs a 12. If it were me I would go ported with a 10" because the 10" will be more responsive to rock and country, the bigger you go the less reponsive they can get at any given frequency, and the ported design will give you the thump and sound of a sealed 12. I also have a bud with dual L7 8" solobarics under his seat, very nice sound, awesome bass response and very crisp output.

take a look here

Fox Acoustics....http://69.49.179.251/default.asp

this guy makes GREAT enclosures. Had one in my old QC vented with two crap 10's and they HIT!!!

His new box for the L7 is AWESOME!!!. 2-10" L7's will work great. If not looking for 2, then call Joe and he can get you a single 10-12" box that will work great. Good quality and cust svc.

Well after doing just about every config. from 3 8's JL comps. which hit harder then any 2 10' or 2 12's or single 15 in any box. For me I like a good 10" in a sealed box but make sure it's at it's min. cubic inch spec. I've always got very tight bass thats not over welming or too thumpy on rock, country, ext. but still give you some real good lows for R&B or rap with out over driving the voice coils.
I'm running all Infinity Kappas with Pioneer head no added power and 1 10" don't laugh now at no cost to me a DUAL 10"375w ran by a Alpine mono block 450 and it makes the dash cover bounce and that ain't no lie. But am going to swap out with new Punch2 or Infinity 1050w possible JL.
Just my exsperance.

Go with the Hot Box, replaces the lower portion of your center console. Sounds great and no one can even tell its there. Plus you get to keep your rear storage and fold flat floor.

Thank you 2007 5.9! I have been trying to find that website for at least a month, but could not remember the name. Those are the nicest boxes I've seen for our trucks. Right now I have two 10" Infinity Kappa Perfect subs in an MTX box and they just don't cut it. Time to upgrade to 12's. I have always had good luck with JL Audio, and it looks like the 12W3 would fit nicely in the "Fox Box".

I have had 2 10" JL competition subs, 2 10" rocker fosgate "punch", and now have 1 15" square kicker solobaric behind the seat. I like the sound of one 10" JL but it doesnt catch the lows to well. I woul say 12" either JL Comp or 12" Rocker Fosgate Punch. The 10" JL comps would rattle the mirrors. But my Kicker 15" will rattle windows, mirrors, dash and everything.

Good ideas here. I thought about the HotBox, but it makes the front center seat unusable. I got the electronic 4x4 switch just so I would have a usable center seat. for 6 people.

What I can't understand with airspace under the back seat is how can you possibly have a ported sub with enough airspace? Wooden under-seat boxes say they have 0.5-0.65 and the Fox boxes probably have more because it looks like they fit the curved shape of the space. There aren't many 10s or 12s that will even work sealed at only 0.5-0.6 cubic feet. Then you double the air space for being ported and there's no way to get anything close to 1.0 cubic foot.

Are any of the shallow mount subs any good that require less airspace? Like the Rockford Fosgate P3SD212?

Its all in how its tuned. Granted you won't get the proper airspace for any given sub, but you will retain a tight bass and have more cooling effeciencies if its ported under spec. Ported enclosures require less power out of the sub vs a sealed box, so smaller setups can benefit from this.

However this would be a good sealed box for your needs also, very sturdy and well built. These are supposed to be available in a ported version, but haven't found it on the site yet. Uses a 12" sub

Thanks for the link. This has probably been asked before but bear with me. If I took out the carpet-like liner of the storage space under the seat, maybe lined it with some sound deadener, and built a "top" only for the storage space, isn't that just like a ported box? What I'm getting at is the ported boxes that are manufactured have a separate enclosure that goes inside the storage area, and then it has a hole in it to be "ported." If I just build a top for the storage area and it's not quite air-tight, isn't that a pretty decent ported enclosure? Seems like the sub doesn't know whether the air is being released through a nicely-shaped round/square port or just a small air gap at a joint.
