Stupid thermostat question

Hi ya'll, been busy moving and house remodeling for a few months, now need to pay a little attention to the truck.

I'm too tired to be clever so.....where is the thermostat on this engine? I need to pitch the bugger but not sure where it lives. The only place I can see is a boss that holds the alternator also. Do you have to dismantle all of this or am I missing something?

Thanks,
Rob

The thermostat is in the thermostat housing, behind the alternator mounting bracket, in front of cylinder head. You state you want to pitch it, I hope that means replace!!! Because the coolant will not flow to radiator without one. There is a updated thermostat part # cm3934373 that is supposed to stop the fluctuation, I have yet to try it, so who knows if it works or not?? Goodluck, Rick

Buy a DC shop manual. You will make your money back on it in no time.

It seems to me that the manual recommends a bolt tightening sequence and provides torque values for the final tightening of the thermostat housing. You can skip the part about removing the alternator, it can be pivoted away from the housing.

Anyway get the manual you need it, and owe it too yourself to ensure that you properly wrench on this expensive engine.

Good Luck

Don
