Study Using Jet Fuel (JP8) In Diesels

For those that have ever wondered about using jet fuel in their diesel, I found an interesting study. Basically if you scroll down to the middle it will give you the low down.

http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?AD=ADA481082

Fact of the matter is...if you use it, it'll cause a lot of wear by itself. It even shows that it causes a power loss in rotary and inline pumps (read 1st and 2nd gen 12 valves).

Just an FYI to anyone that has wondered about this like I did. I think that if you use it with filtered WMO or a lot of 2 stroke it would work, but I'm not willing to try it on my CR.

I wouldn't worry. The tests were somewhat long term. Most of it was 40,000 miles or 750 hours on JP8. JP5 is a heavier fuel with a little more lubricity to it. It also doesn't have the additives JP8 has. I think you're more at risk because of your mods.

I run JET-A when D2 gets almost to the same price. I add 2 stroke oil, it get 2-3 more MPGs. I and read that JP-8 is to dry, but JET-A is ok when mixed. It ends up being somewhere in the 50/50 to 25/75 range. JET-A to D2.

I just put just put some anti-gel ctain booster in with the 5 gals of Jet A to a full tan of D2. I noticed a noticable power gain and EGTs were about 100degrees cooler. Truck smelled really cool too.

I know of people that ran Jet A for many years in their 1st gen trucks with no problems just adding 1 - 2 qts of dino oil per tank not jet engine oil.
