I tried to remove and replace my leaking water pump this morning. After removing the 2- 10 mm bolts, the pump would not budge. I tried PB Blaster and hitting it with a steel rod, both to no avail. It is leaking more coolant now so I know I loosened something but the pump is still stuck. I'm trying to remove it without doing any damage.

Any suggestions??

Are you able to get your hands on it? Try to wiggle it out after tapping around the entire pump housing.

I am able to get my hands on it but it is difficult to grab onto the flange because the pulley is in the way and doesn't lend itself to grabbing because it spins around as I touch it.

After being sure all the fasteners are off, I always used a three pound dead-blow mallet......Ben

I put a long prybar between the pump body and pulley and it popped right off.

Continue to tap around the housing until you can persuede it to loosen up.

Okay--this is slightly embarrassing but I think I can do it---

Well, the manual describes how simple it is to remove the 2- 10 mm bolts and then the pump is supposed to drop right off. Therefore, I removed 2 -10mm bolts but the pump did not drop right off. I then proceeded to wack the flange with all types of hammers and prybars within access with no success. After several hours of smashing this thing walking away and then coming back to it, I decided to get more light in there to have a better look. This is probably what I should have done in the first place. Anyway, the top 10 mm bolt I initially removed was not connected to the flange of the pump; it was just to the right of the flange. Therefore, I discovered I was trying to remove a water pump with 1 bolt (50% of them) still connected to the flange. I then removed the top bolt (connected to the flange) and the pump dropped right off.

Leave one bolt screwed in a few threads to catch pump when it finally lets go. If not pump can fly off rather quickly right into your radiator. Make sure you have a catch pan under the pump since you will have a gusher of coolant when it comes loose.
