Straight Piped Colorado Diesel Owners

Hey guys,

I have to get my truck emission tested this month and was wondering if anyone knew if I had to put the muffler back on in order for it to pass emissions. I am in South East Denver, "Arapahoe COunty" Any one taken the test around here?

Thanks for the Help,
Matt

Kind of that way up here in Wyoming as well! LOL! I guess they figure that it's so windy alot of the time that if we had any smog, it'd just be blown away. BTW, if you're wondering why it's windy in WY, it's because Montana blows, and Colorado sucks!

I wouldn't scoff in their general direction too long.

You know I was thinking the same thing. I have my emissions due next month. Two of the guys I work with have there Fords straight piped and I don't recall them saying they had any problems at all. I will be watching this forum to see what others say.

I wonder when we are going to have to take the emissions test in Texas? I'm not sure I will be able to pass that thing maybe with some bio.

Here in Colorado all they test for is opacity they do not look at the system or mods. It either smokes too much or it doesnt. No muffler will have no detrimental effect on that.

Flinn101:
You can pick up a juice from Colorado Diesel Emissions same place as you got your check done at. I just picked one up from Tyler last week. I know he is headed to Moab for the Jeep Safari mid week not sure who orders parts while he is gone but they may have one on the shelf, he had several models last week.

Thanks to all of those who replied (especially those who pointed out why I stay in CO- to be away from you guys . You also might just be jealous of the wonderful state I live in!)

But in all seriousness I'm getting tested Wednesday Morning. So, I'll let you know what happens- hopefully nothing but a big A+ pass!

Thanks again guys!
Matt

You shouldn't have to have a muffler on to get an E-test done........atleast I don't think you do. My buddy with an 01 H.O. had his done w/ no muffler and he passed. Although he was kinda scared so he had a cat put in right before he did it so that may have helped him pass.......not to sure though??

I lucked out and live in Weld county where we aren't required to have emissions ( yet that is ) so I've never had to have one done!!

Good luck, hope everything checks out groovy!

If your truck came from the factory with a cat, they do look for it in Colorado. I am not sure about a muffler.

Technically the turbo is a muffler, it is a noise suppression device.

Only the 94-98.5 12valves had a cat. 24valves did not, so an 01 didn't come with a cat so doesn't need one.

You could always get farm plates like me and then you don't need emissions no matter where you live.

As long as you think it is wonderful that's all that matters.
