Story Time
The other day I was at my union hall and was talking to one of the instructors (also a journeyman fitter). We were talking trucks since he has a 7.3 non-turbo. I really had to bite my tongue when he started telling me that he pulls a 30' fifthwheel and went to West Yellowstone and got 20 mpg with the trailer on!! : : I asked him what kind of mileage he got empty and he said I am only getting 18 in the winter. I just can't figure why some people can't tell the truth. He also claimed to get that kind of mileage in the Bitteroot mtns. too.<br>Tom

Don't think so best I ever got with a IDI 7.3 non turbo ( F250 4x4) was 18. But I tell you only put 8 glowplugs in it. No other problems at all and lots of heavy snow plowing work, 30 to 40 hours a storm non stop. Not a ton of power but very reilable. But no way 20 towing a trailer... maybe 2.0 What were they 170 hp??

Just remember guy's your calculator with bad batteries can generate a lot of numbers which may not be right but you will like, ask any engineer as they can make any theory correct given time, money and their numbers. I find a lot of people do not know how to do accurate fuel milage and when it looks bad they just like fisherman enhance the truth. What's sad is people will like what they hear and buy accordingly, bitterness of lies will have them promote more untruths about all diesels even though they have a mis-spec'd tow vehicle based on lies. Many people on these forums will add the weight of their tow vehicle and more and expect the same fuel milage and performance from a stock truck which they expected to perform like a car. In reality I think our trucks do pretty good considering the basic weight of these trucks in comparison to anything that a gasser in identical circumstances would do either in fuel milage or pulling capability. Sooner or later the lies will come back to these guys as there is no way to substantiate the ridiculous claims. They are only short changing themselves as most of us have the experience to know better and expect more realistic performance from our trucks. PK
