story about backup horn and oil change

Back up horn may be a good thing. I hook to my trailer often and and think having the door closed everytime you back up to adjust where the ball hits the trailer sucks but this summer I had a friend launch my boat with me driving it since there was a long line at the ramp but when he tried to get out of the truck with it in reversee still the horn started going off and am I glad. He got some crap for almost sinking my truck.

Picked up a new oil drain pan the other day heated up my truck than pulled the plug and dropped it in the top of the drain pan and said ok Ill get it in a minute well then I realised the drain pan would not let the oil in fast enough because the hole is small and it was going to overflow and make a big mess so I had to stick my hand in the probably 150 degree oil at that point and it sucked. I think I will drill some extra holes in the false top of that oil drain pan so it will take oil faster next time or just use a 5 gallon bucket even if I have to cut a little off the top to fit it under the truck.

I installed a Fumuto oil drain valve on my truck. It is easy that you don't need a wrench to change the oil and it has a smaller opening so that the drain pan can keep up. Worth the money.

Red face oil overflow happened to me too

yeah i had the oil overflowing the drain pan here too An easy and quick mod with a pocketknife and it didnt happen the next time. But heck, you're a tougher man than I am if you put your skin in burning hot oil to save a eco-disaster in your driveway Rock on!

I installed an ez-drain from Geno's.

No more dropping the drain plug in the catch pan!

Some drain pans like you described also have a small valve(cap) that needs to be opened to allow the oil to go into the pan faster. If you don't open it the pan will overflow. Don't ask how I figured it out.

Hopefully the hand is okay and will heal. That black stain in the garage never goes away. In fact I can personally attest to it never going away. Did I say never?

I had the same thing happen with the oil plug in the hole in the drain pan. I too reached in and retrieved it. That oil sure is hot on the hand. I didn't realize it would be that hot until it was too late.

Some things just don't take long to look at. A drain plug in hot oil is one of them.

I overflowed mine on the first oil change too. I also installed the Fumoto valve and man that thing is sweet! I was alittle concerned that not all of the oil would drain with the valve because it looks like it sticks up past the bottom of the pan. Next oil change I let the oil drain until it stopped, pulled the valve just to see how much more would drain and ZERO trapped oil. Needless to say I'm sold on that little valve!

Side note,my pan has the vent opening...well guess what,it ain't enough!

What he said

5 gallon bucket fits perfectly under the 4x4s, even with stock tires.

No burnt hands, no stains on the driveway.

If you open the little valve and the oil still doesn't drain fast enough you can do what I did. I took a paddle bit and drilled about 4 or 5 additional holes in the top portion of the covered drain pan---works great now. I agree about the oil stain--"Never" is a good description. A constant reminder of . Gives the "boss" something to talk about when she runs out of other examples of what I have screwed up around the house.

Unless you have a hole in your bucket.. I never even knew the 3" whole was there till I lifted the 3 gallons worth of oil from under the truck... Talk about the Exxon Valdees Thank God for mineral sprirts and oil based paint thinner + alot of hard work.
