stock turbo to 62/12, notice more power?
Hello. If I got rid of the stock turbo and installed a 62/12 would there be a big power difference? Lets say I was having my boost max about 40-45psi. I have my AD150 setup waiting to be installed. Turbo is next. I am starting to read lots of threads on turbos. The more I read, I feel like the less I know what is good for me.
Thanx.

No, don't think so. What the turbo will do is lower EGTs and blow more efficiently allowing more fuel to be dumped resulting in more power. But the turbo in and of itself won't add a lot of power.

A 62-12-65 should spool close to stock and cool pretty well. I don't think you'd have any EGT issues with just one box.
I'm on the fence. I had a 62-14-71 with my six speed and loved it. It was great for 500hp on my '03, but daily driver settings were closer to 400-425hp. I now want either a 62-13-65 or a 62-13-71. I aim to use it as a secondary in a twins setup eventually, so I think I'll go smaller for faster spool. Not too much into smoke any more, especially after having a SPS66, Smarty, TST and MP-8.

A turbo allows you to have more useable power. In other words you can turn your fueling up and still have the EGT's stay in check. While towing before I could only run the 30 hp setting on my Quad Std. Now I can run on the 60Hp tune easily towing. The problem I have now is getting it to the ground and I don't want to hurt my stock tranny. That issue will be corrected in March

How did you like the 62/14? I wonder if I would enjoy the gains. Was it slower to spool up than the stocker? If so, how much slower? I would hate to get a turbo and then wish I kept the stocker on there.
Thanx.

All correct. I have a 62/12 and can't tell much difference unless I'm really putting the pedal to the floor. The turbo itself is good for 20-40hp depending on how much fuel you are putting to it. With no extra fueling it is more laggy on the bottom end but once it spools, it hauls. I only have this turbo because I already had it from my 03. If I was going to buy a new one it would probably be a bit bigger like a 62/14 or similar......
With my Predator on the Extreme RKL tune I made 450hp. Guys with stock turbos are making about 430hp. Not a huge gain but the egts are much lower than most guys are getting...

Thanx Dodgezilla. I am a turbo tech virgin. Would you mind explaining why you think the 62/14 or would be a good choice? We have very similar trucks.

I was thinking more on the lines of Auto vs 6spd and the 6spd ability to spool a 14cm housing as quick (or close) to a 12cm on an Automatic. Sorry, recovering from the flu so my minds been all over the place. I must have been thinking about another post...

it depends on how hard he's driving it.. a 14 housing would definetly reduce pumping loss on the top end, but sacrifise spool...
hell on a stock turbo im making 450hp @ 28 psi, and less than 1200 degrees on the street... and its a 305 motor!
