stock receicer ?

The stock receiver hitch on a third gen truck is rated for how much weight? And how much with weight distribution hitch? Can I tow 10,000lbs. with the stock receiver and weight distribution?

What year are you asking about? IIRC, my '06 is good for 12k.

How many of you exceed the ratings on the stock hitch? Do I need a class V? Im getting a toyhauler with a dry tung weight of 1050lbs. I will get weight distribution, but even with that the receiver is only rated to 1200lbs. I can see having a loaded tung weight of maybe 1400lbs. Is the stock receiver enough?

I think th sock receiver is class IV. I have occasiosionly gone 12k, without an equalizer, not often. I would certainly go Class 5.
As Clint Eastwood would say, "Do you feel lucky, punk?".
At any rate, why gamble on an expnsive TT with an underrated hitch?
From what people have posted, I would also get a Hensley Arrow, or something equal.
I think for over 10k, a Fiver makes a lot of sense. There are real needs to stay with a TT, for some.

Toy haulers have higher tongue weights for a reason when they're empty. It's so when you load the toys in the back the tongue doesn't get too light. The axles act as a fulcrum. Once you load your toys behind the rear axles the tongue gets lighter by design. At least that's the way my Weekend Warrior works.

I would add a Class V receiver just for the added safety margin. I too, felt like the stocker was on the weak side. I never had a failure with it, but I feel alot more confident in the strength of my Putnam XDR. http://www.trailerhitches.com/traile...s5xdrhitch.cfm

I noticed on the link provided by TexasCTD the info stated drilling required. I put the XDR on my truck and it was a NO DRILL install, in fact it advertised as a no drill install.

You should probably get the ball mount and ball from them as they have the highest rating of any I have seen so far.

Steve I was looking at the link I posted again....and I don't see where it says drilling required. I don't recall doing any drilling on mine either. http://www.trailerhitches.com/images/pdf/PT187.pdf

We did have to cut off the OEM receiver hitch from the OEM crosstube however. That took a little bit of work. But definately worth it!

My truck is a 99. I have the XDR and tow 13 - 14,000 with pintle hook. No problems.

Man, after seeing how similar the 3rd gen XDR for use with factory receiver is compared to the Superhitch from Torklift, it makes me even wonder more why it is nearly 3 times as much money as the XDR. I'm tempted to get an XDR and just modify it to include a 2nd ball mount location below the original so that I can use a camper extension.

No problem... Most of that type of info is plugged in by some tech guy who doesn't know much about the product...

Typo's are easy to make...
