Stock DMF and Clutch components after SouthBend G56-OFEK Install
Monday I completed the installation of a SouthBend G56-OFEK in my truck (in sig), to replace the slipping stock clutch (note truck only has 19043 miles). The entire project went well but I did alot of reading on this forum prior to ordering this clutch and then the install. My 15 year old son helped along with a few hours help from my cousin. The install took about 8 hours total and went rather well with the most challenging part being stabbing the tranny, I did remove the transfer case which I feel was well worth the effort.
I built a tranny adapter for an ATV lift which worked really well as a tranny jack. I did have front wheels of the truck on ramps approx 9" high then the rear axle on jack stands.
The scope of this post was to show pictures of the stock clutch components and the lift/adapter I used. Link at the end of this post.
First impression of the clutch was very positive upon initially starting the truck, little to no vibration, a change over the stock DMF! Rowing through the gears felt as before but it is somewhat different. I did notice a little "chatter" when engaging the clutch in reverse backing up my driveway. And I heard the low RPM "growl" which simply reminded me of a pre DMF Dodge Cummins. I need to put a few more miles on it and adjust the clutch pedal.

My stock clutch didn't "look" bad either, but it wouldn' hold any tune over stock in 5th and 6th gear full throttle.
In my experience the OFE got grabbier (is that a word?) after it broke in for a while. New, it barely chattered from a dead stop, now it engages a little harder, not bad though.

Danderson you were waiting for somemore feedback. Well over the past two months I have only drove the truck 500 miles, in this time I feel the clutch has gotten a little more user friendly or I have simply gotten used to the clutch. Yesterday I had the gooseneck, approx 11k#, on for the first time w/Smarty on 70hp. Clutch was flawless, shifted nice not to grabby when backing trailer up or starting. I even started in 2nd gear a few times. All in all I am very pleased with the clutch.
