Question Stock Box Air Filter

I'm curious, I got one of those Amsoil eA air filters about 2 1/2 years ago, been blowing it out every once in awhile but noticed within the last few months, my indicator thingy was getting pulled down, sometimes about half way down. When I saw that, I thought "Gee, I just blew it out" but I got curious. Went to Kragen, picked up a good 'ol basic Fram air filter, stuck it in and since I did that, the filter gauge ain't budged! Was my Amsoil that bad?

Those air filter indicators are not that reliable. I can pull mine half way down with a brand new filter.

If you have a boost gauge use that, when you start noticing the max boost level isn't as high as it used to be it's time to change the filter.

I had the same issue with my Amsoil dropin. I think the indicator is working correctly. It did not pull down when new, but started pulling down after 25K or so. Even though I cleaned it on a regular basis, there is no way to get all the dirt out. When it started pulling halfway on a regular basis, I stopped and dropped in a Napa filter. The minder is not moving again.

One other note, when I changed the filter I noticed the top of the airbox was harder to fasten. Even though the filter may still be usable, I feel the gasket starts deforming and may not seal as well as new. So for that reason alone I would not run any filter in the stock box for an extended period of time.
