Stock 3 speed

I was wondering how much my stock 3 speed in my 90' cummins will hold powerwise. Would it be worth it to do a shift kit/tc/and valve body, or just wait till it goes and build it all up?

Most people say that you're lucky to get good life at 200 horsepower.

The internals on the tranny are good for 450+, but the stock TC is limp wristed.

My tranny seems to be holding up just fine, but I'm running stock and don't want to add power until I have money for an aftermarket TC and VB. When I add power, I'd prefer to actually be able to put it to the ground.

A valve body and convertor will be more than adequate for 350 HP.

The big names in Diesel performance converters are ATS, DTT, Suncoast, and Goerend Brothers. I think that Suncoast, DTT and Goerend all had valve bodies as well as convertors.

However, all of the above converters are good for, as far as I gather, well over 400 horsepower. For only 350 you could probably go with a cheaper company like Hughes. Or, if you want to go for bulletproof, a big name converter would be good forever.

Last I looked, ATS's TC was 1000-ish, DTT's was 700-ish and I believe GB's and SC's were 600-ish... I think that's about what they were. I think a Hughes TC can be had for 400-ish.

I think that the valve bodies were 400-ish from everybody who had one. If I recall correctly, ATS didn't.
