Still looking!

Hello all,
Well it has been a long look and i have come across some good trucks. If you can all bear with me. I am looking at a 2003 crew cab 3500 DRW 2 wheel drive, AT with 208,XXX. My question is, with the injection pumps on the common rails being gear driven, how long can you expect them to last? I know on the older ones you were looking about an average of 100,000 miles per pump some more, some less. Since this is a 2 WD, what are the major repairs some of you have seen with these? Do the front bearings still go out as fast as the 4X4?
Thanks all for listening, nice looking truck just a fair amount of miles and I'm gonna add alot more to whatever I buy.

the injection pumps on these trucks are great. if you have issues with the fuel system it will be the lift pump and the injectors. injectors are not cheap. i dont know about the front end on the 2wd so i can help you there

I would make an effort to get a truck with the Cp3 injection pump, Solid tranny is also important but hard to check without pulling pan. Ball joints are a common problem, but not the end of the world.

Yeah I think I am going to stick with an 03 or newer, even a high miler if I have too. Only thing I have to do is find somebody I can take with me that knows what they are looking at, better than I do that is. I think I will check my local chapter and see if anybody is willing to help. Thanks for all the replies.

I know 208K is not that many miles for a CTD, but ****, that's a lot of miles on a truck to feel comfortable buying it used. I hope it is priced very well.

Yeah,
Thats my worry. It is priced at $9900.00, but if its in good shape I figure between me trying to talk down on price and what I have to spend I can afford to spend a little on maintenance. We'll have to see, I still have 2 weeks before I can do anything final.

Personally I'd be concerned about the AT and the rest of the truck, not the engine so much. If you can swing it I'd find a lower mileage truck and spend more money. There are some on Autotrader for $15-16K with just over 100K.

My buddy purchased a 2005 F-250 PSD last spring with 160K, and spent $7K on repairs before the end of the first month. I know the powerstroke sucks, but it's a good example of how trying to save money can backfire.
