Still lookin for a clutch
Has anyone used one of the TST clutches. My stock clutch has seen better days and the $600 range would be much nicer on my pocket book than the $1200 for the con ofe. College just costs to much money. THanks guys

I had the 13" button clutch from TST and HATED IT! It was grabby as hell, either IN or OUT absolutely NO! inbetween what-so-ever. Shook the whole dang truck on anything other than a downhill start in 2nd gear take offs. Also don't even "THINK" of trying to back a trailer!
off
Ok now that's that outta my system! I seriously thought TST discontinued their line of clutches because of several complaints like the one above!
Heed the advice of most people. Call www.southbendclutch.com and talk to Peter. If you don't tow in excess of 8,000lbs regularly and you don't go HP crazy then you can make a standard diameter 12" clutch live in your truck, and the 12" OFE is only $800 if I remember correctly?
Call Southbend and be done with it!

I have not had any experience with TST clutches - so I can't comment on them.
I do have a con ofe from sbc. I like it - it works well.
Clutches are not fun to change and they are expensive. As someone on here has already said - do it once - do it right.
Have the flywheel resurfaced by someone who knows what they are doing, put in a quality pressure plate and matching clutch and include a new throw out bearing, pilot bearing, bolts and lock washers.
Good luck on the clutch and the college.

Never had the experience of driving one w/ a tst clutch, but if it's anything like the old R model Mack w/ button clutch that I used to drive, I'd like it! You gotta learn how to use a button clutch. You try to slip it too much and you'll have the front end bouncing from the clutch grabbing and releasing. I miss driving that ol' Mack!

I got one and all I can say is it don't slip, it holds everything I can through at it. Sure, it chatters, but you can learn to take off smooth. I don't recomend one if you pull a trailer, because of the grabbyness. The only other negetive is the installation. you must center the preasure plate using a dial indicator, because the plate doesen't index the holes in the flywheel, like the original. Take my word for it, you will want to make sure it is perfect, I didn't and about shook my truck apart when we started it. My two cents worth, Darl

After owning a couple of them in trucks, you could not pay me enough to put a button clutch in a truck.

Just curious, the clutch and drive line has to do with engine power not weight. Sounds like an odd decision. How heavy is the trailer, I pull up to 33,000 gross with 3.54 gears.

According to southbend that is not entirely correct. They will not reccomend nor warantee some of there clutches based on how much weight you pull. I did have a con ofe that south bend took back (great guys there) because I got a new trailer that is outside of the reccomended usage before I installed the clutch.
Apparently south bend makes clutches for specific uses in some cases.

I have the new Luk HD Ceramettalic clutch in my 6spd. I could not ask for a smoother clutch or a better deal. I was told it will hold in excess of 1100ftlbs without a problem. The best news was it cost 595.00 + the shipping. I have run it about a month without 1 complaint. Kudo's to the boys at Carolina Clutch. They answered all my questions and the clutch is just what they described.
