I am looking at upgrading the system. I listen to Classic Rock and the such, with the occasional Metallica/papa roach/rob zombie. I would like to know what speakers most are using ie, just replacing the stock speakers or modifying the speaker mounts, and what sub's and amp mounts people are using. Thanks.

How much money do you want to spend? I would listen to a bunch of different brands and find the one that you prefer. Focal are some really nice sounding speaker, but expensive. I went with JL audio because of price, plus the componet set had a 3/4 tweeter which fit in the stock location. Diamond Audio Hex series have a real nice crossover option, it enables you to power a set of rears for some nice fill. You can pay anywhere from $200 to skys the limit for speakers.

Amps are another story. I use and really like Zapco, I think most will agree Zapco is towards the top of the food chain.

Do search on subwoofers, you'll find a lot of good ideas.

If you're going to go through all the trouble of replacing your speaker and adding subs and amp, you might want to think about a new head unit.

Head unit should be as important if not more important than the speakers themselves. Get a decent head unit and good 6 bys for the front and you shouldnt need and amp ( maybe for the sub).

Thats what i say a good head unit and definetly good 6x9 rather you have infinity or not with a good head unit if you listen very loud the stock speakers will go. I lost numerous sets that way.

not looking to break the bank. But I am looking for a clean install type head unit. with amp connectors and surius(nascar) sattelite capability. Thanks for the help.

I just put an Alpine 9851 in.....it's Sirius/XM capable. Haven't been able to get it to skip yet while playing CD's.

Only bad thing I've heard about them is the have a motorized face plate, so make sure you get it from an authorized dealer (easier to address any warranty issues).

I went with the CDT EF-61 components up front and the CL-61's in the rear, through a Rockford P-4004 amp. So far I'm really happy with it. I have a CDT 10" sub, custom center seat enclosure and a Rockford P3002 amp sitting in the house right now waiting to go in. So far I'm really happy with it other than I have no bass right now. The mids/tweets are plenty loud and they sound really clean. I expect it'll get even better when I add the imaging tweets and dynamat the doors.

So far I have a little less than $1500 into it....

+1 for the alpine (authorized, no ebay), the CDT comps, and Zapco.

Also check out US amps, handbuilt and very underrated.

Mike D is right, tryn check out other peoples systems before you drop money on your on (could be hard depending on where your at). Since your lookin for more sound quality than SPL take a look at Resonant Engineering's SE line (www.reaudio.com) and Ascendant Audio's lines (http://www.ascendantaudio.com/index.htm). Both are really good SQ drivers that wont break the bank.

Do yourself a favor and buy 6-1/2" speakers... not 6x9... 6x9 is horrible.

cant go wrong with an alpine deck- even those that hate everything else they make, still like their decks. simple, clean sounding, full featured. A good basic deck with 3 4v amp preouts, mp3 decoding, simple equalizer, etc, goes for about $300..

I just finished throwing in and wiring speakers in my truck today.. im a tad partial to alpine though as listed below.

Heres a quick breakdown of what the system will consist of:

Computer for mp3 & dvs/dvd audio, 5.1 output.
Alpine T757 amp for front speakers
Alpine T420 amp for rear speakers
Alpine 3522 amp for center channel
Alpine MRV1005 amp for subs
Alpine DDC-R17H 6-1/2 components (front doors, stock tweeter location- removed tweeter part itself from its casing and superglued/rubber cemented to back of apillar!)
Alpine SPR17LP 6-1/2 coax (rear doors) - (stock is 5-1/4, they fit fine!)
Single Alpine DDC-R17F mid from component set for center
Subs.. Will probably use a couple old infinitys until i can afford new alpine swr-1041d's.. short on cash now.

Wiring, 2 gauge lightning audio power wire..
Monster Cable 12 gauge XLN speaker wire
Monster Cable Interlink 400MKII RCA's

Still trying to duplicate this one guys "back seat riser" to allow a sub box to fit under rear seat.

You can see my setup in my sig...other than the sony head unit and pioneer amp, it's all JL with streetwires wiring.

I don't know if it's good or bad, but it sounds better than any stock system I've EVER been in

Good God Timmay2!, the man said he was on a budget! Your set up would be great for a Honda Civic with the seats reclined into the trunk............
He'll be fine with some Crutchfield stuff and a Steve Miller CD.
It's not too tough (or expensive) to get a decent improvement over factory.

If you price it out, its not bad.

amps on ebay : $70-130 each.
speakers, dddrive off ebay, $60, spr's get at cost at local electronics store, $55.
monster cable half off at local audio store,
etc etc.

The whole system is under $1000. for now

One thing is for certain, you can never have too much clean power. Even if you dont want to listen to it loud, having a amp that has more power than needed makes it sound so much better... you dont have to crank it as high, where the distortion is present, to get a decent volume/clarity..

I give a bump for Clarion decks too.. they are excellent !

Rockford fosgate used to be awsome but a look at there stuff now... It sucks wow, a company that just went down hill after hitting the corporate best buy seen. Alpine decks along with pioneer decks have always been reliable and cost effective which is what are bud is going for.I have worked for good ole Circuit City for about 4 years now installing, They have treated me well.
