Steering wheel radio controls tech question

I am hoping someone who has installed an aftermerket stereo or steering wheel from a higher model can tell me this.

I am putting an RB1 into my truck and want to buy a steering wheel w/ volume and station controls to control the stereo and Nav.

I am unsure not having taken one apart if it is as simple as getting the right harness to go from the back of the steering wheel and pluggin into the RB1 or if it is something much more than that??

Anyone out there have any input or experience w/ such a project. I am searching forums now but figured I would ask first. Backwards I know.
TIA

I have done this and it's not that complicated. You will need the steering wheel harness and both switches as the wheel won't come with these. The harness plugs into the clockspring. On the backside IIRC are extra wires you will be able to move to the appropriate spots. Then one wire is a ground, and the other goes to the cluster. Again there should be an extra terminal you will be able to move to accomplish this. Yes, this is a VERY abbreviated version, but anything is possible. I have an '06 now and the cluster is a little different as far as connectors go, so I won't be much more help. I did do it to three of my past trucks, so don't fret it can happen. BOL.

Ok thanks I may be contacting you in a while once I get the pieces for some direction if I need it. Did you do it to a 3rd gen ram by chance?

I read all 14 pages of that post on dodge talk and posted there as well. Most of those guys were cutting and splicing. I would like to keep it much more clean and as close to factory as I can.

Thanks for the help guys.

Yeah, I did it to two different '03s. Haven't figured out the '06 just yet but I'm close. Glad to help if needed. Send PM.
