Steering Problem

Steering Problem

I have a 2001 dually and i have alot of play in the steering. I have new tie rods. Would the BD steering box stablizer help or should i just buy a steering box? When I put new tires on the front it help. Thanks for any info

Check to see if the box is actually loose before you buy a brace that may or may not help. The box itself could just have loose internals. Try moving the steering shaft with your hand and see if you can find where the play is.

X2. I would go as far as simply adjusting the sector. That will make a world of difference for the 5 minutes it takes. I've seen plenty of new and reman steering gears that were sloppy and loose too.

You need to climb in & under and determine where the play is. Parts are expensive so only buy what's needed. Correct box adjustment procedure is in the FSM.

Excellent info...check track bar and tie rods, ball joints for slop. Once you found the worn parts and replace them I would still recommend the steering stabilizer to protect whatever box you end up with but just throwing on the stabilizer won't help if other parts are worn out.
