Steering Damper positioning...

I'm about to replace both stock dampers in my '97 3500 DRW. My friend previously took them off to replace steering components, and I'm wondering if they were put back on correctly cause he "guessed" how they looked before he took them off.

Basically what I am asking is there a correct way to position them? Or is just making sure they dont touch other components during full steering travel good enough?

Just don't want to mess up my new dampers putting them in wrong.

Thanks in advance.

Jay

They can be in any position but watch out for the adjustment link on the tie rod in front of the cylinders. It can look like there is plenty of clearance in front of the stabilizer with the wheels straight but when turned sharp will hit. Easy way around it is to turn the adjuster a quarter turn so the protruding part of the adjuster doesn't point at the cylinder. Also make sure when you get an alignment that it's not left pointing that way.

The alignment advice is good. My local shop rotated the adjuster and it poked a hole in the cylinder. Lucky for me, I saw the oil dripping out, the shop replaced it.
