Steering Box adjustment

Steering Box adjustment
I have only 1,000 mi on a new AGR steering box. There is play in the box (from 11:00 to 1:00). The play is in the box, not the steering shaft, or the tie rods or the track bar or....anything else. I have the FSM & will adjust per. I'll do something else next time as this is the 5th time the box has been installed. Wandering steering is becoming tiresome to say the least. (Caster is now near max & has been adjusted in increments.) I'm just wondering what your experience has been regarding the necessity of adjusting so new a box.

I've got all the steering upgrades also...DSS brace, Thuren 3rd gen track bar, Rock solid bushing, new ball joints. I can grab the steering shaft & turn it without moving the pitman arm. The play is in the box.

Maybe not.

AGR says 3rd gen are weak also but then AGR has poor quality control. My 1st box had waaay too much play. Back it went. 2nd dumped fluid out the seal around the pitman shaft (lock ring came out). Back it went. AGR switched to another lock ring. The new box took a dump also. Back it went. Apparently groove wasn't machined correctly. All boxes were supposed to be quick ratio. I don't know if this is or isn't. The part number is correct AND it takes a full 4 turns lock to lock. I'll void the warranty & adjust. I'm tired of paying for R&R along with a tow bill.

Would like some info on adjusting the box. Junkman, mine is an AGR and has the exact problem you have, play from 11 to 1. Frontend has been completly rebuilt, even replaced the steering shaft. Truck had less play with worn out front end ond old box.

Miles have nothing to do with it.. Did you buy your truck new? how do you know it didnt have the box replaced before you go it? I think 200,000 highway miles it alot different than around town miles.

Regarding crap, I consider 4 replacements due to factory error crap. I'm trying to learn to pay others to do my wrenching and consider my time more valuable than the mechanics or I'd do the work myself. Multiple installs, dangerous failure AND truck inoperable = crap.
