Starting problem that seems to be Smarty related

Its been real cold here in colorado and I have experienced a few issues with my truck starting. Lately when its cold and the grid heater has had to cycle on the truck sometimes will only click(kind of like the battery is dead) when you turn the key to start it, but if you hold the key in the start position it will eventually crank and start, but leaves a check engine light on, p2509.

It only seems to do this when I have the smarty loaded. If you take the truck to stock it will crank over smoothly no problem.

Anyone ever experience this or have any idea how to fix it. I love having my Smarty on the truck I'm just worried one of the times it isn't going to start.

Thanks

Yeah I have the latest update loaded. I am running just the plain Revo not TNT. I had the dealer check it out without the smarty loaded and they couldn't find anything. Said they tested the batteries and the charging system too and all that was fine.

I remember reading something about a cold key not working in the ignition...

But I'm having trouble searching for it...

Apparently, you are not the only one who has thrown this code...

Do a search on "P2509"

After reading really quickly through what has been posted, the biggest response was to make sure that the batteries were connected tightly, and charged properly...

It sorta makes sense that it's only happening when it's cold outside...that's when batteries that are weak are gonna show their ugly side.

Good luck, and let us know what you find out!

Yeah I did some searching, but didn't come up with any real answers. I checked the battery connections and cleaned and tightened them. The thing that's weird is it only seems to do this with the smarty loaded?

I appreciate the help. I may take it somewhere other than the dealer and have the batteries tested. I would assume the dealer is smart enough to test the batteries separate, but that might be a bad assumption. Maybe one of the batteries is bad and the smarty is just making the problem more evident.

Short story....my truck had been sitting for about a week. Had one little cold spell...without the Smarty it threw the code. Batteries were weak....plugged in the chargers and topped the batts off and have not had a problem. I truly think they're on their way out... three years is pretty good on a set.

You know what happens when you assume...

Even try your local parts store, they usually test them for free, but sometimes that doesn't do any good either...

Truck started fine this morning, about 12 degrees outside, no smarty loaded.
