Starter Contacts

Ok, so i think i've figured out my clicking when trying to start issue is the starter contacts. i ordered them today and should get them in a few days. How easy is it to change them? Do i have to pull the starter off or can it be done while still on the truck?

Thanks in advance from anyone who has done this already.

There are 3 long bolts that hold the starter on. Start with the bolt that is the hardest to get to. Don't wait and do that one last. It's easy to get out.

I just did this fix. One hour start to finish including cleaning up. The hard bolt to get to is the top bolt on the starter. Use a 10mm wrench. I was not able to get a ratchet on them. There are three of bolts on the starter – all 10mm. Spray some penetrating oil on the bolts today if you get a chance. Better yet, go out now and try to get the top bolt loose. This will save you the aggravation later. If you have trouble, there was an approach that used a 2x4 and a jack. Not quire sure how this actually worked, but it sounded good.

There are great instructions with the Larry B’s contact kit. Is this the kit you have? If not, let me know and I will detail the instructions.

Easy fix once you get the starter out. I too used a 10mm wrench on the top bolt with a snipe to get it loose then worked around.

There is no comparison in the contacts from the OEM and the LarryB's. I don't know why it wasn't done that way from factory.
