started to get hot what to do
it was 101 outside driving 40 miles pretty good hills up and down going 65 mph, pulling a 10 foot landscaping trailer with a 0 turn mower on it, big fan came on and the water temp settled between the two zeros on the 200 stayed there until i got to town and went below the 200 mark, question is thermostat? the 16" pusher fan yall been talking about? or ????? 99 cummins temp gauge NEVER moved i dont know just dont see the reason why this cummins temp gauge moves so much.

Cuz its a fake controlled by the ECU to read what it THINKS you should see, as are the rest of the gauges on the dash. Every truck is a bit different but that sounds a little high. Check you coolers and make sure they are clear of leaves, bugs, and other FOD.

I pull in those temps as well and mine will run there and so will my friends. It will also go a bit higher on the longer hills.

It appears that diesel engines are more efficicent at higher temps. 200* is not a high temp, and is nothing to worry about. get concerned when it's 220*+. Get worried when it's 240*+.

Like the other have said. Seems normal with a load and hills run 200-210 with the fiver hooked up. If you want to check few things look at the water pump pully and make sure it isn't wobbeling. If it is, its about to fail. Also you could do a flush and refil if over 150k miles.
