Stacks or not?
I'm trying to decide if I should get stacks, or go with some other kind of exhaust setup. Currently I'm running the stock exhaust without muffler. Whatever I do, I don't want to lose the sound of the turbo through the exhaust.
I've got kids that ride in the back seat quite a bit, so I don't want to go too loud. Is there a way to get a good sounding, drone-free stack setup that is 'easy on the ears' with the windows up on the highway?

You could get some sound proofing for the back wall. There is nothing there from the factory. I packed that area full of clean coveralls as a temporary sound deadener, and it helped a good bit. I'm sure proper stuff would be much better. That will help the drone.

I think it boils down to you either like the noise or you don't. Stacks without a muffler are LOUD. I never get a drone with mine maybe because of my "old manish" style 5" turnouts, or maybe because of the box I built for them? After some pretty harsh looks from the neighbors I put on a hushpower muffler and it quieted it down to a rumble. I was so used the sound without the muffler I took it back off and have it on the shelf in case I'm forced to quiet it back down by the law. My 5 year old likes the staight stacks and my wife drives the truck shopping occasionally. Personal preferance I guess...Brad

Like brad said, its all personal preference. I run my stacks with no muffler, its very loud and sounds awesome. Windows up, the exhaust isn't loud unless your like WOT. But i've heard a couple trucks with stacks and a muffler, and they have a deeper tone and actually sound somewhat better, depending on the muffler of course. Try out the straight pipe w/ stack, If you don't like it add a muffler ? All personal preference.

i have a 2yr old and she likes the sound of the stacks. whenever i accelerate she mimics them by making growling sounds i've had them on since before she was born and she has no problem falling asleep in the back. the first time she ever kicked in the womb was in the truck

i had a bad drone with a single turbo and my 6 inch mitre cuts. once i got the twins it totaly disapered. so for all of you with wifes or girlfrends that hate the drone. just tell them, i can fix it if you let me buy another turbo.

I like stacks on some trucks (mostly dually's), but I still use the bed of my truck and dont want to melt anything on the pipes. Plus you just lose a little bed space with them.

I have stacks on my dually flatbed, but I run a muffler. I got my exhaust from Pinnacle Performance, I'm sure you can find them somewhere on the internet. It's a custom built to order 4" exhaust with a straight through muffler packed with fiberglass. I built my own crossbox for the stacks which is under the bed and I run dual 4" mitre cuts that are taller than the roof of the truck. With the windows up I can hardly hear the exhaust, with them open I definately notice it. Outside the truck, it's pretty loud and has a real nice turbo whistle to the exhaust.

If you cover your stacks like this or something similar you can still haul 4x8 sheets and keep stuff from melting. https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...3&d=1192116958
