Speed sensor problems?

On my 01' the speedo started acting up latley, it seems fine up to 70 but it won't go above that, the truck accelerates but the speedo either stays at 70 or drops back, and at hard acceleration, say from 40-70 it will stay at 40 until you let off the accelerator then it will shoot up to however fast you are going.

It didn't start untill all the snow recently, but I don't know it that has anything to do with it or not, just wanted a few opinions or experience before I ran out and got a speedo sensor, I think it's located on the rear end on the 01's too but not sure, insight on that would help too.

Thanks

Check for codes. Mine threw a code & had erratic speedometer the 1st time I needed a ckp. No codes the 2nd time, only intermittent no start. No need to disconnect the starter, just set it on the frame & work around. Make sure batteries are disconnected.
