Spare Key??
Went to Home Depot today to get a spare key cut. They said the couldn't do it I had to go to dealer!! Is this true we cant even get a generic key cut for our trucks. Really dont want to go to dealer cuz I know just to get a key cut they will probablly charge 1 hour labor and parts All I want to do is put a hid-a-key on my truck.

For anti-theft purposes that is true nowadays. I believe some manufacturers safeguard the key making process so much that you simply cannot just walk in and have one made... you actually have to special order it!

Actually, the key has a built in transponder and has to be "linked or bonded" (can't think of the term) to the truck along with being cut to match.
When you try to crack the truck, the system checks to see if it is a valid key and if not won't crank.

I went to the local hardware store and it is true that you have to go to the dealer to get a key with a chip in it to start the truck but they were able to cut a key just to unlock the door in case I lock my keys in the truck It just wont work to start it.

That is all crap... I paid home depot 1.79 and had a key cut to open the door in case I had an attack of the stupids. Works fine to get into the truck.
I had a factory key made, $120.00 for the key and 30.00 to program. Same price from 3 dealers.
Go to home depot, it will work just fine for what you want.

Ditto
I had to argue with the guy running the key machine, but he eventually did it. Works great if you lock yourself out, has come in handy once or twice.

All I want is a key to open the door when I leave my truck running to go into the convenience store or any place I will be in for just a short time. So I guess I will argue with the guy at home depot again tomorrow to cut me a key.
