Sound deadening

Does anyone have a picture or description of how far up behind the rear bench they put their material? I'm just not sure if I should go up over the ledge directly behind the bench seat.

Thanks.

I went all the way up the back of the cab to the window, under the whole back seat area, and underseat storage. Also inside all the doors, and some on the inside of the door frame, I havent gotten to the front floor or roof yet, but I will soon with me putting the stacks on this weekend...

Thanks. I've driven around w/o the seats in and wow, is it loud when the vents open. I thought about closing them but someone here said not to unless you liked feeling the pressure increase in your ears.

Are you happy with the results?

Easy fix for the vents....

Get some foam padding for seat cusions at a fabric store, cut a square to go over the vent and tap them in place or use sound deadener to hold them in place... I used 1" thick foam, had some lying around from when I was going to add some to some old seats...
Sorta like a filter for the dirt that usually comes thru there as well as cuts down on the sound some...

Overall its cut down the resonance inside the truck down quite a bit, im sure when I get around to pulling the front seats and headliner and doing the front floor/roof it will help a ton too, but overall much better than before.

Good idea about the foam. I noticed a lot of dust after removing the seats. Did you put one layer on the back wall or multiple layers?

Yeah, I thought about it while I had the back seat out, how dirty it was back there and just thought id try the foam, havent had any more dirt back there.

I doubled up on the back of the cab, but not the floor, didnt have enough material. If I have some leftover when I do the roof/front floor I may go back and double up the back floor area...

On the doors I did double up behind where the speaker mounts, and also sort of by doing the outer skin of the door, and then another layer on the inner door structure. It helped reduce the road noise quite a bit.

BTW, I used RAAM mat, check out their website, pretty innexpensive and works really well. Google the sound deadener showdown and you can see a comparison of popular sound deadeners....

Yep, I'm also using RaamMat. So far it's working great. Tonight I pulled off the seatbelt anchors and placed a layer inside the pillars. Not sure how much it will help but I figure any amount of mass in there can't hurt.

I finished the back seat area. Next will be the doors and then the floor. I drove it tonight and I can tell a difference.

Thanks. I bought the RAAMmat directly from www.raamaudio.com. Shipping was prompt and the product arrived in good condition.

I took this from a post above:

when I did my sound insulation/deadener, I left them alone, because I think the engineers at the factory know what they are doing

Do you ever drive down the interstate with your windows closed then open a window and feel your ears pop or the pressure change.
