What is soot in an oil analysis?

I'm looking at an oil analysis from Blackstone I did last summer. If was curious about how much soot is in my engine oil, what do I look at to find that out? Is that even possible?

Yes yes and yes. Soot is a byproduct of combustion taken from the cylinder walls by the engine oil. A good quality oil will hold the soot in suspension till the next service interval with minimal impact on service life to teardown. A poor quality oil will do the opposite. Soot is an abrasive so the smaller the % the better.

De nada,,,

the ci4 oil was formulated to hold 5% in suspension. the 6.7 required a reformulation to lower the stuff the dpf could not burn off and hold 2% more carbon in suspension. the new oil is cj4. if you have a 04.5 up through the 6.7 you should run a bypass filter. and on a 6.7 you need to do all of the deletes asap
