soot from exhuast-John Deere

I have a John Deere 6466A engine in my boat, 250HP at 2100 rpm. It blows out a lot of soot when it starts, especially after sitting overnight. Any idea what is causing the soot?
The turbo is in good shape, clean airfilter, I took apart the
aftercooler and it is clean inside, my next steps are new injectors (tips) and checking the timing. Just thought I'd see if anyone here had any ideas. It has dry exhuast.
Thanks,
Robert

Re:soot from exhuast-John Deere

Im gonna take a guess and say the tips of the injectors are allowing fuel to leak out into the combustion chamber. This is why it tends to do it when it sits for a long period of time. Possibly the sac in the tip of the injector is leaking just a little. This could be due in part to a weak spring in the injector body. If anything, take them out and have them looked over and cleaned by a injection shop.

Had some similar problem on some truck engine. Found out that it were the seals on the valve guides. Surprisingly the engine did not blow blue smoke, just black.
I did check the injectors first. ( While at it replacing them with some more motivated stuff)

Good luck!

AlpineRAM
