Sometimes it runs then it wont !

Having trouble figuring out why my 1990 5.9 will run then die. Can drive it awhile shut it off then 5 min later it wont start . Changed lift pump ,the filter, Checked shut off soleniod . Looked for water. Got power to soleniod. Even changed power sourse to soleniod Can see feul at injectors when getting air out of lines. It runs fine after starting then acts like its outta feul . The tank is full ! Lots of power when running ! It also will pull start when it dies ! It's driving me nuts !

Sounds like you are sucking air somewhere. Check all fuel lines and tighten all fittings

Make sure the connections on run solenoid at injection pump are tight. Check the wire for chafing or grounding on bracket.

After it dies, have you confirmed you're getting fuel to the filter/pump? I'm wondering if there isn't some kind of blockage at the pickup tube... It's either that or as 92smokin blacky said, you're sucking air somewhere.

Even with a good power source, the shut of solenoid can be sticky. I had this problem...it always ran fine, but randomly would not start after shut down.
The way to be sure is remove the plunger from the solenoid, and re-install the solenoid without it. You will have to shut down manually with the lever on the pump. The next time it doesn't start, remove the plunger, if it immediately starts up, you will know that was the problem.
Another option is to just replace the solenoid, they are cheap.

I did check the filter after it died , and it was full !! Thanks though. I think I solved it !! The problem seems to be when I turned the ignition on power was interupted to the soleniod. I ended up running it to a toggel switch. So far so good !!
