Some More Electric Questions

1.Made into the positive battery cable end is a PINK wire that is part of a plug/connector, about eight inches away from the battery.

Also, in this plug, is a BROWN wire that follows the big red cable to the starter.

The other side of this plug has two wires, still pink and brown, that are part of a harness that is on the left fender.

I assume these two wires control the starter; am I right??

Also, in the event of a failure, somewhere in the key-switch end of things, can I JUMP across these two wires to engage the starter?? in much the same manner that is done to bypass the solenoid on a Ford product??

2.On the wife's Dodge, under the hood, immediately under the right-side wiper pivot, screwed to the fire-wall, is a shiny rectangular box, with some wires plugged into it; is this the voltage regulator??

Should I have a spare one??

3.On the grid-heater are two fat wires, side-by-side; is one hot--other ground, or both hot??

Thanks.

1. Yes. Easiest place to jump is the starter relay, it's the rearmost one of the ones on the fender.

2. Yes. A spare wouldn't be a bad idea. The best thing to do is go to a junkyard and get an OEM spare off an '80's Chrysler product. Shouldn't cost much and the OEM ones are more reliable than the aftermarket ones.

3. Both hot. You can see the ground wire on the front side of the heaters.

My voltage regulator went bad and blew my low beams out in about a minute; now I carry a spare. (Altough it didn't go bad all at once, but I didn't know better to fix it immediately...)

I have actually unplugged said harness from near the battery, and put a wire (pocket knife, et al) into the plug in and jumped it to the positive terminal. Makes a few sparks, but easier in the dark than trying to see which 2 wires to jump near the relays.

I stole a plug off of a junkyard wiring harness, cut the little tab off of it and put the two wires off of it into a wire nut.

I'll sell it to you for three easy payments of $9.99...

Yeah, any old Chrysler product will do. They used the same regulator from about 1970 until they put the regulator in the PCM in the late '80's.
