Well work on the crew cab as slowed, Moved back to Idaho. But it is time to start back on the beast.

I was thinking that I may want to box in the frame of the crew cab conversion. It is the 85 3/4 2 wheel drive frame. I converted by bolting in the engine and trany cross members, and install the 91 4 X 4 parts.

Any way do you think I should box the frame, or part of or not?

the frame is designed to flex, boxing it could make it too rigid and cause cracks... or so i've heard

I boxed the frame of a M-37 with a 4BT and Rockwell 2 1/2 ton axles with 3/8 plate. It is going to be a pack mule over sea's so it has to be strong. The one it is replacing has had the frame broke 5-6 times becose they over load it. If you box it it makes building crossmembers easy and on a long truck like that it will still flex some.

What part of Idaho? Would be nice to have another member in the SW corner of the state. As far as boxing the frame I am also against a full box except in certain cases.

I wouldn't worry about boxing frame look at the reg diesel fame its not boxed and its strong .When I did my swap on my truck {85} crewcab longbed to 4x4 and now diesel never had any problem with frame cracks what so ever .sometimes tomuch is Overkill .

this was on my mind this last week and i am thinking of sleeving the frame with a fairly thin channel that will have to be formed and in short chunks as i go. want to talk to a fab man here local about it he has ran into all kinds of issues over the years and his opinion is very valuable to me. like was stated earlier some bracing will do more harm than good. i also thought about lengthing my donor frame and just moving the c cab over to it. anyone went this route.?

If you look at the frame on the crewcab it is most likely the same as the diesel frame I know mine was and the donor truck I had was a 93 and my crewcab frame is a 85 2 wheel drive but now it has a cummins and 4x4 .I wouldn't worry about the extra boxing of frame unless your going to Baja this thing mine has held up for Years and no cracks or anything .sometimes tomuch is Overkill .

i haul a lot of 5-6 ton loads with my flatbed gooseneck i suppose i wouldn't think twice about back in the early eighties when we were driving gasser chev pu. i will just have to keep an eye on things. simplysmn why is your c cab looking for a new home? and where are you located.?

Its looking for a new home cause my knee's are pretty tore up from younger years and now that i have it up so high its killing me gettin out of it so after all the work I put into it to get it this way I can't see tearin all apart to drop it so I am sellin it to buy a new one .I am in So Cal .Look in classified section you will see more info on truck .

I know my truck is no beauty queen but it runs great and has never let me down its hard to sell it cause it feels like part of the family but ya gotta do what ya gotta go sometimes in life .

if and when this fall i get to wrenching on mine i am going for stock hieght, tires and look. other than paint which i will do down the road. i would like to help the ride out with some air ride work. and i will sound deaden the cab either are not cheap . but i want a highway rig that can do some wood cutting if i ask it and haul the wife and kid safely . and lastly something my wife can drive , she now drives my 93 ctd. as far as the frame i will see what i do at the time. any photo's of your c cab.?

here is some photo's of mine its tall but so am I thats why I built it this size .if I want a small car to run around in and whoop up chevy's I just pull out the Vw and its not stock either new motor put 240 hp to ground so we will see what its going to do.
