hey guys, its been a while since i have visited over here but i have something i cant seem to figure out on my own without just replacing parts, i thought maybe some of you might have ran into this

well for starters, the truck is a 97 cummins with hydro-boost brakes. i have recently done brakes to it front and rear. but the problem was there BEFORE any of the work. the front had new rotors, and ceramic pads (had some semi metallics, but they wore down pretty fast)
i redid the rears not even a year ago with new hardware, cylinders (upgraded them to the larger bore) and turned the drums down a couple thousandths

the truck stops alright unloaded, but not as good as any of the other cummins i have drove. when i put the boat behind it (19 foot boat, approx 3000lbs) the truck just wont stop when backing the boat into the water, or coming to a stop sign. it would be comparable to having air in the lines, but it doesnt.

i have been leaning towards a power steering pump or a master cylinder.
the only other problems i have noticed with the truck are when i turn a corner, it almost feels like the truck is in 4wd...it just kind of hops a little. and when its cold (below 30 degrees) and the truck is first started, if i hit the brakes, the power steering pump will growl like the ford pumps do until the truck is at full operating temp.

If your finding the steering is an issue as well then the pump is more than likely the culprit.

If the pedal has a solid feel but you have to lean into it big time to get any real action out of the brakes then the pressures do sound like an issue.


Spongy pedal with all new brakes could mean weak flex lines wihich are not good quality IMO. to start with.
