Soft Transmission
Hey all, I've got a few questions about my transmission. I have an '02 with the 47re of course. I had this rebuilt to stock by a local tranny shop about 40,000 miles ago. Since then I have had an HTS valve body, deep pan, and a 'Howards' dual or triple disc converter put in. The thing that I have been trying to get rid of but haven't been successful of is the soft feeling when the converter is not locked. It sets you back like no other when it locks and it shifts as hard as I want it to. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on why I don't get the seat of your pants feel until the converter locks or is that just the way it goes? Does anyone know anything about this converter, is it not "tight?" Thank you for any information

Because it is a fluid coupling that slips some until the converter locks up.
Kind of like the tires slipping a little when taking off on gravel rather than grabbing on pavement you are still moving forward just not as fast as you could be on pavement.
Clear as mud ?

That all depends on the stall point of the converter. I could spend $1500 for a "good" converter for a high stall drag racing converter for a 69 Challenger, but it would still feel sloppy putting around. The stock stall was around 2400 I thought, lowering that by a few hundred RPM makes a big difference, much more bite at low RPM's. Maybe contact the mfg. of the converter for more specific information, such as stall point of their unit. If everything holds good when locked, sounds like a loose converter.
