So since twins wont work what then?

As stated before in another post i will still pull a 12000# trailer combo (two trailers) over donner pass pretty regularly with my ford next year when i get the money pit back on the road.

I originally wanted to take a couple of years and build this thing with twins for myself as a tow rig to enjoy. IT JUST GOT PERSONAL. With all the wise cracks i heard this weekend about what a POS wore out tired antiquated under powered old motor i had in that thing and how i should have got a 6.0 or Dmax. They never drove it or rode in it before i killed the tranny and t-case this last week. Truck is out for 1 year ..... As far as they know.

Im not worried about dyno numbers I want something that is going to absolutely pull the doors off of my friends chipped Dmax and 6.0's who i also pull with. Its childish i know but they are dinging the 700 ft/bs and 780 in the dmax able to pull and keep it cool.

Now whats it going to take to build a trailer pulling son of a gun?

I know Don M ussually has good suggestions ive been reading all of his old posts.

If im not doing twins, since everyone seems to think i wont be able to run and keep them cool, what now? Whats my limit on torque to run this thing really put some ponies down when under a load and still keep the EGT's down off of 1300

Keep the 12v 180hp motor?

#10 plate and gov springs which ones

stuff a cam in
60 lb valve springs?
DV's
What injectors
What turbo
4" ehaust
and a BHAF

Twins should make for a nice towing setup. Just don't get them to big. A set of EDM's, a cam, 3K governor, Exhaust brake, cam, head work, some laser cut DV's, a scotty 2 intake (only if your going with a single).

ddestruel:

You can look at the "signature" for my 96' Dodge 12 valve
to see how it is set-up. IMO,.....the truck pulls GREAT and
I have towed almost 12,000 pounds (11,600) up I-77N/S
through the mountains of N.C., Va, and W.Va. with no
problems at all! I have the 12 valve 180 H.P. just like
you mentioned, but it has been modified. During the
summer, on real hot days with very high humidity the
truck's EGT's can get up there, but I can easily "control it"
with my right foot. I can tell you this,.......my 96' 12 valve
will pull that load alot "cooler" than my 02' 24 valve does!

Hope this has helped you some!

I forgot to add in my last post that the "grades" going
up I-77 are 5-6%, but some of them are pretty long!

JCL,

I think he was refering to water temps being hotter.

I would say fully usable hp for towing heavy and keeping H2O temps under control would be about 425-450 (additional electric fans might help H2O temps). That is with twins of course. In a 12v it might be slightly higher but not significantly. That would translate to roughly 900ft/lbs. Plenty to walk all over the competition providing equal gearing of course.

Should have been more clear you are correct, water temp is what was raised as a concern. So 425 & 900 ft/lbs is possible but i have to use twins, cool. Ill probably go that route if i can drum up enough info.

For the sake of conversation any other turbo combos that will work, B1, Hx40. what can the hx 40 16 wg or 18wg for that matter keep cool when towing. Draw backs are turbo lag so i have heard.

Ill have to get on the phone and start picking some brains though

Ahhhhh

Thanks Nathan,

I thought he was referring to EGT's. Somehow I thought this statement was in that reguard....

A few of us run the KSB1B and B2 combo. Mine really has very little lag...

Joe Rodgers runs a HY9 and Ht3b combo and it starts building boost at 1000 rpm's.

and so many more possibilities that Nathan (Idaho CDT) can run over for you if he is in the mood.

On my 01 HO I ran DD2's and a PDR40 with no temp problems towing up to 10.5k. It had a TST PM3 box as well but I very rarily used it other than for the boost fooling capabilities. Very few hills would slow me down towing and milage was around 12mpg. That combo should dyno around 325hp (no box). The lag wasn't that bad and was more than tollerable for the top end performance.
