So I've decided on a 12 Valve...

No I havnt bid farewall to my old Chevy just yet, but within the next 6 months to a year I plan to. The truck I am looking at buying would be a 97-98 12 Valve 5spd 4x4, I would perfer Ext cab shortbed, but thats besides the point. I like to research/have a plan when I go to buy a vehicle. so my question is, I am looking to gain about 400HP/800-900 TQ at the rears, what would parts would you gents recomend, I know I'll need a moddified injection pump, bigger injectors, maybe turbo, and the like, but what componets work best with each other? Also as far as the trans goes, what should I look to do there, single disc? twin disc? Can you float gears in these trucks like you can in Semis and some other bigger trucks? And finally with these mods what range for mileage would I be looking at? Thanks guys

For 400RWHP it is pretty dang cheap if you get a truck with a 215hp P-pump ('96-'98 Manuals) all you need to do is regrind the stock plate to a #10 or #100 profile, add a 3 or 4gsk, bump timing to 16*-18*, modify the AFC housing for full rack travel and lastly shim out the rack plug on the front of the injection pump 2mm. That right there with a good air intke and free-flowing exhaust should net 400ish-rwhp. If you added 191 Delivery Valves and a small turbo upgrade you could probably hit 425rwhp...

Htt and Industrial Injection both make awesome turbos, and Industrial Injection and DDP both make great 12v injectors. There are also some people out there that make custom stuff, I know I am looking at getting a hybrid S400 single turbo and some other injection shops make bigger injectors...What do you plan on using the truck for?

HX 35 is a turbo, yes. 370's are Cummins Marine spec injectors, 370 hp.

Well if you want to sledpull often you need a dual disc so that it holds up and you won't have to live in fear of it exploding if you sledpull... If you aren't going to do sledpulling I would just get a ValAir single disk. I would say get a HTT 62/14, the stuff I mentioned and DDP2's or 3's. That will put you EASILY at 450+ rwhp.

Disagree with u man

no offense, that setup will not easily put the rig at 450 rwhp. the turbo is good, but i think he would need to step up to DDP 4's to hit 450, I have learned quick that even the 215 has its limits and mines pretty darn close at the 450 horses that I have proven to the ground.... But its with stock DV's and 370 junk injectors...

Now my foolproof setup with a 215 for an easy 450 would be
16.5 degrees of timing or higher
100 plate
Tricked AFC slid forward
181 DV's
DDP 4's injectors
any turbo equal to or over 62/14
(my setup is an S400 with an HX35 and 370 junkers for 450 horses)

Count on about 40 really dirty horses with full cut DV"s as well just my experience talkin...

My other question is, when you say grind the plate what exactly do you guys mean. and when you say 191 or 181 what eaclty to you mean, is that a measurement? I am trying to learn everything I can, so also perhaps when you guys mentions ideas could you explain them to me, I love learning new things, especially about diesel performance so I will read any good info you guys have, and from what I've seen theres plenty
