General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

So. How about that 2008 F-350 Dually

What's everyone think? I haven't driven one or know anybody who owns one, but it sure looks like a killer truck to me. Don't get me wrong; I love my Dodge. But that twin-turbo, huge wheels and built-in tailgate step looks like some pretty neat options. Now, if it just had a Cummins in it...

Buzz, cool indeed, which it would need to be to put out the hot collar I would have when the Ford service manager tells me they have to pull the cab to change an injector or head gasket.

Nope, I may only have the fair looking girl next door, but I'm sure shes gonna be bringing me home tonight!

Everyone and their brother has a 2008 Ford down here around me. I'm not even joking. But I haven't driven one and I haven't talked to anyone that owns one yet...

I think they are a sharp looking truck. Probably the best looking truck out there right now. I wouldn't own one if you paid me, though. If they ever get the bugs worked out... then we'll talk.

Personally, I don't like the looks, and after the 6.0 I wouldn't buy the new motor if I planned on owning it past when the warranty runs out.

Otherwise, they do have some nice ideas, like the factory fluid pressure actuated brake controller, and the tail gate step.

Also, Ford seems to give tow ratings that are more realistic.

Hopefully Dodge will respond.

i have taken the F-450 on a test drive and it is very nice, has a good ride. But i am going to wait till the new motor has been out for a while to know if it is the next powerstroke P.O.S. like the 6.0 was. but would love for it to work out cause the truck its self is kick EDIT...

I guess one thing I really don't care for is the fact that Ford seems to have to advertise this truck, literally all over itself as "Super Duty!" Just look at one of them and try to tell how many times "SUPER DUTY" is scribed all over each and every one of them... (inside and out)

I've had plenty of experance with older F250 & F350 trucks in the twilight years of thier lives. Even with rotted out floors, overloading (flooding) carbertors, and doors that wouldn't stay closed, the truck itself would hold up and haul a decent load. So I'm saying that yes, historically they have done a decent job (fron a truck standpoint, not always the engine) building a long-lasting and capable truck. So Why do they have to try to advertise themselves so much now?

I would much rather have a truck with very few proud badges, but could really work well, without having to be "noticed."

I've talked to a few dealers around here and they said they've had no 6.4's come in with major problems, some little oil leaks or rattles have been the most.. They have said that compared to when the 6.0 first came out its' been much better. So it's a good thing for ford...

the engine has very little turbo lag and has much more low end torque than the 6.0... I havent driven a 6.7 cummins yet so I can't compare.

thats your first mistake is talking with the dealers. talk to some hotshot drivers they have driven and know almost everything about all the engines. the dealer is just trying to make a deal

I should have said I talked to the techs. I know a bunch of them through my cousin, (he's a diesel tech at a ford place here) and no, I don't think they were trying to make a deal, I know when someones trying to make a sales pitch, I am not stupid.

Did they happen to tell you about the 40,000 new 6.4s that they had to recall...if the 6.0 had more recalled vehicles than that, no wonder Ford is having the annual losses that they are having!

I think that the new 6.4 is REALLY cool....really cool if you like heavy duty truck/flame thrower combos...or maybe are in the mood to roast some marshmallows or hot dogs? Other than that...I REALLY do like the interior...

The flame issue was on what 2 or 3 vehicles?? The company who makes the injectors had a recall, but some of them got into engines.. I'm glad They re called all those vehicles so that there would be no further problems.. Either fords doing a really good job selling the trucks or people just like fords. I see way to many 08's around here. I haven't seen one 6.7 yet..

They did not replace all the faulty injectors. They reprogrammed the truck to SHUT IT SELF DOWN when the injectors leak and overheat the exhaust.
